I think pretty much everyone aggres that equip in the ammo slot, be it the easter hp%+/mp%+, bibiki seashell, bomb cores, ect at one time or another tossed it by accident when in a fight. Majority of these items are quested/event gained or extremely expensive. Until the statement about the G.M. policy, it can be assumed that they are unretrievable, even after learning of this, it is a one time retrive and accidents can still happen. Will there be a way to lock a piece of equipment that is in the ammo slot so it can not register on the Range Attack button under abilities or /ra <t> macro command? If not, will there be a way to regan theses without causing negative issues? Such as a quest where we can register the items we which NOT to throw so if we do by accident, we can complete it to regan the lost equipment only once per conquest cycle.

If such a feature were added, it would still need to have a toggle button, because otherwise you'd be screwing every RNG, THF, SAM and COR out there that needed to use ammo. Its much easier for RNG and COR to make and /equip macro for switching in ammo than to do so manually. Locking ammo would make it hard to do an /equip macro for the ranged slot.

SE could also make it so when the ammo slot lock is toggled on, you can't use ranged attacks either. to many times I've had this happen:
Genbu starts casting Water IV on Tank
(I hit Stun macro)
Neomage's Ranged Attack hits Genbu for 0 Points of Damage
Additional Effect: 21 MP drained from Genbu.
(Neomage) Crap... wrong macro set.

I'm not trying to say that this isn't a good idea or anything, but there is a work-around available which will prevent a vast majority of item tossing mistakes.
1. Unbind the keyboard shortcut for ranged attacks (this can be done through the configuration menu)
2. Never used the ranged attack option in the battle menu.
3. Set up ranged attack and pulling macros to specifically unequip the ammo slot, and then re-equip it with the desired ammo. For example:
/equip ammo
/equip ammo "Acid Bolt"
/ra <t>
Or, if using something like Boomerang to pull with:
/equip ammo
/ra <t>
Changing the item located in the ammo slot (note ammo slot, not ranged slot) will not reset your TP, so these macros are safe. In the first example macro, if you skip the first line (the one that empties your ammo slot), the macro could potentially toss your Bomb Core/Morion Tathlum/Bibiki Seashell once you run out of the ammo specified by the 2nd line.
To avoid any potential problems, set up ranged attack macros in this way on all macro palettes, even for those jobs which don't equip something valuable in the ammo slot. For instance, you might think that you don't need this type of macro in your THF macro palette. However, during battle, you may accidentally switch macro palettes and hit an unsafe ranged attack macro.Lyonheart

A Ranged Attack ON/OFF button would be very nice.
I've never tossed anything valuable, but if it happened it would really really suck. Specially since I do tend to get macro sets mixed up.
(I usually just delete the /ra <t> line from all my ranged macros whenever I'm not using them, but an ON/OFF option would be better)sigpic

Though I don't really have problems with the toggle lock idea, the quest scenario you propose is not likely. You register your ammo item, what kind of check would need to be done to make sure you didn't mail it off to another character and are just trying to get another bomb core to sell.
This is what came to me right off the back when I read you scenario.
The ammo macro Lyonheart displayed is what I live by. Never once thrown my bomb core (or any other ammo item I did not intend to).

Valid points, though the thought of the /ra macros you guys talk of never occured to me o.O. Also, reason being why I started this cause during some lag spikes when fighting, I have twice, on accident tossed something from the ammo slot. First was my mp egg on my whm ; ; and that was way before I learned GMs could return items. Second was my bibiki sea shell on my monk and thankfully got it returned. But I am afraid of it happening again.

Lyonheart's method of not throwing items beats my deleting all the "/ra <t>"s from my macro sets and unbinding ranged attacks.

I've always been paranoid about throwing my tathlums and eggs. I have yet to do it, though.
I even tried to see if there was a difference between /ra, /shoot, and /throw. I was thinking that maybe /shoot wouldn't throw items and /throw wouldn't shoot bows, while /ra was a general cover-all.

Great idea, LL. It still won't help the RNG who accidentally shoots his Gold Msk. Bolt because Unlimited Shot was in recast, but for all other accidental shots it's very useful. You'll never lose any ammo other than the one specified in the macro.
And of course you should never, ever type /ra unless you're sure what's in your ammo slot and that you really intend to fire it. :)
