    Any plans for a new strategy guide?

    The game has changed so dramatically in the past 2-3 years, it would be great to have an updated guide with official info on the new jobs, new quests, and new expansion!

    Thanks for taking the time to read our questions, we all appreciate it!

    Re: Any plans for a new strategy guide?

    I'm doubting it at this point. SE just released an online guide that it looks like will be updated with new info and be expanded as time goes by.
    Probably no more paper guides in the new future, atleast not in the states. Japan may be another story, as they get all sorts of different guides with all sorts of different information.

      Re: Any plans for a new strategy guide?

      Sites such as Wiki, ffrecipe, ffxi-atlas, Mystery Tour, and somepage are well laid out, easy to navigate, and can stay up-to-date with changes to the game.

      An actual strategy guide seems unnecessary.

        No no no. Apparently people like books and the internet is a terrible resource for game information.

          I think SE giving their blessing to "premier sites" is their way of saying, "Oh nice, it's already done for us. That was way easier than another Brady guide."

            Re: Any plans for a new strategy guide?

            I think its fair to ask about a guide.

            Sites can get cumbersome and tedious to navigate when you start breaking down crafts, NM hunting or are just looking for a map. I mean, PC users whine about not having a windowed mode so they can view such sites, but what if you don't have a PC?

            I'd like to keep an atlus or recipie guide on hand so I don't have to constantly look it up on a site.

            Sites like Allakazham and KI are grossly outdated or filled with misinformation. Somepage is just a chore to navigate with all the pop-ups and whatnot (even with the blockers on). ffxi wiki and mystery tour are about the only ones I still visit.

              I would personally like to see a new version of the FFXI Atlas. I have one, and use it alot, but it is missing CoP and Aht Urgan areas. Its also missing chest/coffer locations. Of course, once the official windower comes out that will be irrelevent, as I will just use ffxi-atlas.com while playing.

                        Re: Any plans for a new strategy guide?

                        >_> This is the "Ask SquareEnix Questions" forum; it is definitely not against the rules to take a subject which came up during discussion in another thread and put it here as a question.

                        * * *

                        While I think there is a need for a new printed guide (in English) targeted at new players, I do not see it as economically viable without subsidies from S-E, given the apparently tiny number of new players joining FFXI each month.

                        The upshot is, the best use for such a guide is to be bundled inside of every new FFXI package--IMO, S-E can justify the expenditure/investment, since there's a business case that it would sell more copies of FFXI and help retain new players longer.

                        Still, a new paper guide seems unlikely, given that S-E recently rolled out an online beginner's guide.
                        Bamboo shadows sweep the stars,
                        yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
                        Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
                        leaving no trace in the water.

                          Woah! Since when did Somepage have pop-ups? Why have I never seen these pop-ups?

                            Simply put, if you're still getting popups "even with blocker on" get a new blocker.

                              Lol, I just use FireFox and populated it's list with a few sites I knew were ad sources. Telling it to block those, if Somepage does do pop-ups then I apparently stopped them before ever seeing them.
