  • Would you consider giving incentives to level support jobs past 37?

The last Vanadiel census showed a large proportion of jobs at level 37, SE's comment on this was something along the lines of 'this shows players enjoy levelling several support jobs for their main jobs', I think a more accurate representation would be 'this shows players feel obliged to level several support jobs but give them up as soon as they can'.
The problem is that as the number of new players tails off there are fewer players levelling jobs past 37. I'm currently trying to level a 2nd job and on a typical evening if I try to find a party, there are usually between 4 to 6 people seeking in my level range (50ish) and rarely the right combination of jobs to build a workable party.

One idea I had to alleviate this problem was giving a 'support job mastery bonus' to level 75 players whose support jobs are higher than the requisite 37. Perhaps a small boost to certain stats depending on job combination starting at level 40 with an incremental bonus every 10 levels.

While the support job would still be at half for the purposes of determining skills and abilities, providing some sort of boost for going past 37 might be enough to encourage some people to take those jobs a bit further.

The problem is that some jobs have so many support jobs associated with it, that to level them all past 37 at the time of needing them is just beyond them.

Take rdm. At the very least you need blm and whm sub. For soloing, nin and war, and possibly blu. For endgame, drk and smn (a touch 2005 but I can see why). Bard is another people like. Thf for farming. That is 8 or 9 subs for one job. I don't want to have to level them all past 37!

So don't, it was meant to be a bonus, not a necessity. Something for those who have the time and devotion to do it. I figure it would be like merits, I never see anyone use them in their search comment, nor can you tell from looking at their job levels whether they have any or not, nonetheless, people want to make their characters better and they put time into doing it.

It's not a bad idea as it is a little like merits, and it would help some people who are leveling their first job up to 75.

I think the incentive to level a job past Lv.37, is that you're taking another job to Lv.75, or leveling a job for CoP missions.

ON the other hand, I completely see your point. These aren't the days where there's a rash of just brand new, NON-RMT, people who are leveling through the ranks. So you do hit a certain point, and unless you build a static LS party, getting an EXP party is nigh impossible. I've noticed this as low as 15 to 20 range as well, but for my SAM45, I've basically had to build a small static of other LS members in order to level the job.

For me, this would kinda help me, since a lot of my subjobs for my various jobs are higher than the Lv.37 sub cap, but it used to drive me nuts that I was leveling a subjob's subjob, and now I'd have to do it past Lv.40 to gain a greater bonus?

You would have to like you have to level every job for CoP, you have to get merit points, and you have to level NIN.

There is no have to the bonuses would probably have to be pretty small, in the order of smaller then meriting that area. It would still be up to the player if they want to do it or not.

Re: Would you consider giving incentives to level support jobs past 37?

I'm just not sure I understand why people with a bunch of jobs at 37 is a problem. That's the subjob level. That's all people need, so unless they want jobs for BCNM40, or level capped CoP missions, most folks have no incentive to level them further than 37.

On the other hand, even if it's only "a bonus" and not "necessary", it wouldn't take long at all for it to become necessary in the eyes of the community, so everyone would have to go back to jobs they had thought they were done with years ago for another few meager levels.

              Talk about annoying.

Could make it like BST, make subjob spells/abilities more effective on monsters if the sub is higher level, but provide no extra spells or stats.

It's not a problem, but giving a small incentive to level past 37 helps everyone wanting to level other jobs to 75.

We play the same game, so ya I see the same problem. However, I have never been asked what merits I have, which is good as I don't have any. While some advertise what merits they have, most don't. These level bonuses would probably end up being the same.

But that's what I don't understand. Why do people need more incentive to level another job to 75? The benefit of having multiple 75s is having multiple 75s.

Not to mention the downside to that, which is inventory issues.

I don't know when you last leveled a job past 38, but invites disappear drastically last time I thought about it because of people leveling a job as a sub stopping. Also, this becomes very disheartening for players leveling their first job.

As an incentive to level other jobs, I think instead that SE should add a little more subjob flexibility.

Once we get a certain job past a certain level, and get our main job to a certain level, let us pick amongst the various job abilities/traits, within reason, that we have unlocked on other jobs.

Now I can see where this can be easily abused. If just any trait could be taken most alot of DD might go /thf for Assassin, /sam would probably go Berserk or Double Attack. So I can see where this can be abused.

However when I think of it, I think of rounding out my dragoon's abilities more. As a job ability I'd love to have Weapon Bash, I like the jobs that primarily use two handed weapons so I am very interested in having that. Traits that I'd like would be more +acc, or maybe some +att traits, or it would be nice if I could get Hasso while not as /sam.

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

I don't have a big ego, it just has a large mouth.

Want an incentive to lvl subs beyond 37?

Just raise the lvl cap to 100 and watch all the players leveling subs to 50.

PS > Hey I didn't say it made sense, just that it would be a good incentive to lvl subs beyond 37. :P

Yeah, it's pretty frustrating, but all this system would accomplish would be to delay this frustrating experience by a few levels. So instead of the invites drying up at 38, they'd dry up at 40. It wouldn't drastically change anything, but just change the status quo slightly.

I almost forgot, one way to do this could be letting the sub's skill pass either uncapped or @ 75%

So while you wouldn't get any extra abilities you could get some extra skill that would make some of your sub's abilities and spells even more useful, specially if your main doesn't have native skill.
