  • Why don't you give Dragoon "Assault" and "Retreat"?

When I started toying with low-level Dragoon a few weeks ago it errked at me just abit that Dragoon did not have the two basic pet commands of "Assault" and "Retreat". These commands are constantly used by Summoners and Beastmasters to have some minor control over thier pets/avatars. I don't see how giving Dragoon just these basic pet commands would unballence the game...in fact I think it would help the job by lettting them do something similar to carby-pulling umong other things.

Come on SE...why doesn't Dragoon have these two pet commands?

I suggested that before and someone in the forum actually said that the wyvern is a part of you or some crap and you dont treat it like a pet.
It does make the job more versatile...

Re: Why don't you give Dragoon "Assault" and "Retreat"?

I'm not sure how that would work exactly. My drg is only 25 but to me it seems like the wyvern more or less mimicks you.

For example, when you use a WS the wyvern uses a breath attack. If Dragoon had the assault/retreat commands would it use the breath attack on your target, his target or none (in the case you had it retreat)?

I think the main difference between Drg and other pets are the type of relationship between character and pet. Smn pets will auto attack any mob that aggros you because it's more of a protector of you than anything else. Bst pets have more control over pets because they more or less mind control the pets.

I do however feel dragoons should have more control over thier pets, not sure how it would work exactly though. I would particularly like to see a Sic-type command added in the arrsenal or an option to select the type of breath damage.

It's interesting... my arm is a part of me too, but at a thought, I can command it to "Attack" and punch someone in the face, or "Retreat" and and climb my happy behind over a fence. And it's not my pet either!

        Just a thought...

But you can't send it off to go do something while you sit back and watch now can you.

Sure. But you can't have your arm "Attack" and stay in battle while the rest of you "Retreat"s behind the fence.

I'm not necessarily against this proposed change, btw. Just joining in this silly fray of reality comparisons. Game balance first, back story / real world logic second. If this change improves game balance, then we'll find a way to make it sound sensible.

Sure, why don't you also add MP into it, and make wyvern stay out for as much MP as you have as well. Might as well add "special" abilities to your wyvern too that cost mp to use and then when your mp is all gone, your wyvern will leave you.

Hey, most dragoons are drg/whm, might as well bring them along as main heal after this.

You don't play DRG, do you?

The charm of the wyvern is that it isn't a pet, in the normal sense. In some ways, it's a part of you, in others, it's its own creature. It's not something you control like a puppet, and it's not something you abuse on a whim like a summon, it's not a meat sack, it's a friend and a partner.

If SE made it possible to directly control the wyvern, they might as well change the name to Beast Lancer, because it sure as hell isn't a Dragoon.

Feba who was that directed to lol?

And your wyvern is your best friend basically. Feba nailed it on the head lol, but Im not gonna lie feba id like some control maybe like a dive move, would be too much or not enough. (I would like to change wyvern color and size tho >.>)

SMN makes pacts with gods at the expense of their own physical strength. Phenominal cosmic power, itty-bitty HP bar.

PUP programs and teaches its automation various functions so it better protects him.

BST tames wild creatures and relies upon them and his own strength to survive.

                        DRG's wyvern is a sentient ally, an equal to the DRG. Would you go tell your best friend to go get hit by a goblin? I'd tell a god, a robot or some mindless creature to go do that. Muffin is my friend, I wouldn't make her do that ; ;

Re: Why don't you give Dragoon "Assault" and "Retreat"?

As for in game reasons that I feel it is wrong to have total control of your wyvern like smn and bst do, Feba and Ophelia Marie Gwen Wendy Teresa Fran Brenda Barbara Quilla Kitten Banana Fanna Fo Fesca, the Third, hit it on the head.

As far as functionality goes, I dunno. Our wyverns take hits, or at least seem to take hits harder than other mobs. This is mostly due to the fact that I don't think they have as much hp as other equivilant mobs for their level, and their defense isn't as good as a player's defense due to no armor and no protect spells. So I'd say they are as strong or stronger as a normal player their level, butt naked with no weapons and no sub. If this is not exactly the case I think it is fair to at least compare the two this way.

Sure, your wyvern might be able to bring back one mob, but two? Most likely your wyvern would get torn to shreds more often than not.

I'd rather see a little Wyvern Dive attack whenever you use a jump/high jump, or flesh out the drg/mage support features a little bit more instead I think.

It's not a bad idea though, I just feel it isn't fitting for the dragoon's character and job storyline to have that kind of control over our wyverns.

I guess giving those abilities would render having a wyvern sort of like a Bst which SE wants to maintain as the prime pet handler class.

Weird isnt it since Beseige mobs like Mamool Cataphract (how do you spell it?) and their pet wyvern can work independently.

Man, why would any DRG ask for this?

I'd rather ask to be able to wear Haub.
