Re: Why don't you give Dragoon "Assault" and "Retreat"?

I can see where the OP is coming from on this one, however, I can see the side presented by everyone else as well. Honestly, I think SE took a step in the right direction by implementing emotes for wyverns. Why? Simply because it adds some personality to them. For being such steadfast companions and having the tightest bond between owner/companion (eg: bst/smn/pup/drg) they have a pretty limited emotional spectrum.

Sometimes as a DRG I feel like a kid walking around with a balloon on my wrist. Sure, my wyvern follows me everywhere I go but so would that balloon. Don't get me wrong, I don't think we should be able to command the wyverns. They're sentient beings that should have a bit of their own will. At the same time, having them blindly follow everything I do doesn't seem to fit the mold either. The true nature seems to fall somewhere in the grey area between but I don't think SE has the firepower to implement the AI that it would take. In the end, the current system is probably better and more balanced then anything they could implement.

the question is, why DRG/BST can't command the wyvern.

Weird isnt it since Beseige mobs like Mamool Cataphract (how do you spell it?) and their pet wyvern can work independently.
True, but that is more of an independant hate setup. When the Mamool Ja Cataphract uses a WS, the wyvern will use one as well still.

Left to it's own devices the wyvern would attack whoever the Mamool Ja attacked first, after that it's all down to hate.

Wyvern and NPCs are in their own category, apart from SMN avatars and BST pets, and they all work in a unique way.

Maybe giving pet commands to DRGs would be more convenient but I dunno if it would fit the job, after all what NPCs and Wyverns do is actually /assist their friends.

The entire time I've been a Dragoon, I've always felt that Lumiere should have been more, how should I say this... "emotional", perhaps? Nah, he's not emo... "expressive"? Yeah, that's about right. It seemed that, as a "sentient" being, the wyvern certainly didn't seem to behave as such. He seemed to behave more like a shadow than a sentient companion. That didn't mesh with the story SE presented for Dragoon (for the most part).

I would say, if anything, that these emotes are a step in the right direction to making the wyvern seem more than "just a pet", but there is a lot more that could go into the AI than SE might be willing/able to impliment into the game at this point. Considering that the wyvern is written as a compainion that's as intelligent and as possessed of free will as us, it's certainly "pet-like" and as one-dimentional as the other three pet types. That is something I find to be slightly disappointing.

                Meh. :|

Not too sure on this one, I haven't levelled DRG much to find out, but I think I'm right in saying if the DRG dies, the wyvern depops ....

That being the case, there is something wrong since when the fomor DRG dies, the wyvern keeps fighting to the death!! I don't see the player versions of fluffy-butt doing that, but if it is a sentient being and friend, it would make sense.

Player controlled pets don't keep fighting for one simple reason: programming. It's just not feasible to find a way for pets to stay alive without a master.

Dynamis drg type mobs also do that too . And normally they pop while the mob is alive or when it dies. They keep fighting to the bitter end. Lack of autonomy kind of makes the wyvern nothing but your 3rd arm.

They used to have allowed the wyvern to keep fighting the mob when you do a Super Jump but now they gave him Super Climb so if you're soloing a mob, theres no more escape.

Damn, you can't please anyone in this game, can you? They gave Super Climb because when DRG used Super Jump to escape, it had a habit of giving all the hate to the wyvern and getting them killed.
