I can see where the OP is coming from on this one, however, I can see the side presented by everyone else as well. Honestly, I think SE took a step in the right direction by implementing emotes for wyverns. Why? Simply because it adds some personality to them. For being such steadfast companions and having the tightest bond between owner/companion (eg: bst/smn/pup/drg) they have a pretty limited emotional spectrum.
Sometimes as a DRG I feel like a kid walking around with a balloon on my wrist. Sure, my wyvern follows me everywhere I go but so would that balloon. Don't get me wrong, I don't think we should be able to command the wyverns. They're sentient beings that should have a bit of their own will. At the same time, having them blindly follow everything I do doesn't seem to fit the mold either. The true nature seems to fall somewhere in the grey area between but I don't think SE has the firepower to implement the AI that it would take. In the end, the current system is probably better and more balanced then anything they could implement.
