    [dev1188] Job Points

    A new category of points for enhancing level 99 characters, called job points, will be introduced. These points may be accrued for each job by defeating enemies as that job. For example, players will need to set warrior as their main job if they wish to accumulate job points that may be used to enhance warrior attributes.
    Speak to the nomad moogle in Ru'Lude Gardens after fulfilling the following conditions to receive the "Job Breaker" key item and begin the trek to completely mastering Vana'diel's myriad professions.
    • Be in possession of the "Limit Breaker" key item
    • Currently be a job of level 99
    Vanquishing foes while in possession of the "Job Breaker" key item will grant players capacity points in addition to experience. For every 30,000 capacity points players amass, they will receive one job point.

    Players can view their job points under the eponymously named "Job Points" menu, which is situated within the "Status" menu, while in their Mog Houses. Expending these points from within the aforementioned menu will enhance certain aspects specifically related to one's profession.

    * Content currently in development.
    The only limit on the jobs one may refine is the number of them Vana'diel has to offer, so enhance to your heart's delight, whether with one job or many.

    Destroy monsters, gain EXP, earn job points. It's that simple.

      Looks like Merits, but you have to main the job you want them on and they're not shared across all jobs. (I'm reasonably certain that was sarcasm, but felt summarizing anyway)

        So they added another layer of merits to grind for? So instead of actual content it's even more grinding... Yeah glad I've no plans to touch the game again if this is what counts as content.

          We were promised a "level 99 Merit-like system" and I've been waiting to see SE make good on it. About time.

            Yeah it looks a bit grindy, but I do like that they're adding more customization outside of new gear. It still bugs me that ARR has no form of merit points at all (and materia sucks balls compared to 1.23)

              Grinding isn't content though. It's one of the reasons why I gave up playing during Abyssea because of how shallow the game really was. You basically grinded Merit Points and grinded against monsters to level up weapons and gear that you had to grind to get because you couldn't purchase all of it from NPCs with Cruor. And some came from chests so there was that too.

              It's basically just a way to artificially extend the shelf life of something. Why do you think games like WoW bleed so many subs between the expansion's final raid and the newest expansion? People realise just how shallow stuff like Daily Quests are and take their cash elsewhere. Having an extra layer of grind added to a game is the same thing.

              And I'm glad that ARR doesn't have merit points. Can you imagine how much worse the endgame community would be with that added?

                Oh I don't disagree on the content point, but I'm still happy to see stuff like this. Lord knows for a game that's supposed to be about customization (armoury system) XIV sure is lacking in real options.

                  XI has always been a grind. From leveling (that may have changed since I quit during WotG) to crafting, NM camping, and everything in between. I enjoyed it back when I played because:
                  A. I didn't know any better
                  B. I had a lot more free time 10 years ago to waste 5 hours a day playing
                  After that I started playing WoW for a few years until I got bored with that and moved on to various other MMO's, none of which kept me around for more than 4 or 5 months, tops.
                  Hell, maybe a more grind oriented MMO would keep me around longer. Feels like I have enough attention to donate until I hit level cap and experience the story. After that it just becomes more work to log in than I'm willing to commit.

                    I don't think anyone's really looking for grindy content anymore, just stuff that's decently challenging/engaging. Yoshida said himself that ARR is "extremely casual" and it shows; The game is pretty brain dead, even more than XI was when it comes to combat and because of that it's full of cheap, ridiculous attacks like Landslide. I really don't care for the emphasis on mobility and pattern recognition - I want to play Final Fantasy Square. If I wanted to play Devil May Cry, I'd load up fucking Devil May Cry instead.


                    So the result is we have a game that's a rush to endgame, except unlike XI there really is no endgame - just a never-ending gear chase and dealing with stupid caps that, along with the other crap, suck the fun out of things (for me least). Had the drop rates not been complete utter shit across the board, and SE eased up on the EXP requirements (or at least made mobs more valuable sooner) XI would have likely retained a much larger install base. I'd much rather run Dynamis with improved drop rates than spam Crystal Tower quite frankly.

                      To be fair, I loved running Dynamis. Killing Dynamis Lord was probably my crowning achievement in XI. (Not all that impressive, but given my limited foray into end-game, I thought it was impressive). Dynamis was the definition of mindless killing things. Plus the combat was slow enough that you could carry on conversations with people in alliance w/o needing VOIP.

                        People still do Crystal Tower? The gear is barely better than Darklight with takes a day to farm max, and each of the fights is pretty braindead. I'd rather eat broken glass than subject myself to that shit.

                          Yep, and I f'ing detest it at this point but since the devs keep insisting on implementing shitty caps (CT isn't even the best gear, I don't understand why it's capped and at least half the people that do it are completely retarded mouth breathers) I don't have much choice to gear my other jobs.
