Share some of the memories that you created at the Dunes over your ffxi playtime... and its ok to be free flow and rambling because let's face it, that is kind of the epitome of dunes parties, lol...
I always enjoyed being able to take one of my jobs to the dunes because that meant that I no longer had to run around killing crabs in South Gustaberg and I was able to start teaming up with other folks and be more social. The first fear i thought I felt in ffxi was running through konschat highlands trying to avoid goblin aggro, the first REAL fear was inside the dunes... As much as things the the dunes zone stayed the same, there was always something new happening making you go, WTF?!?!
I remember my first time making it to the dunes on my monk, the unknown of the new zone made my heart pound. I put my flag up for an invite and then shortly after got invited to a party. I didn't have the map, so all i was able to do was accept the invite and then try and run to where the party memebers dots were on the map while avoiding goblin aggro. Terrifying... I didn't wan to hold the group up by being a slow noob, but i didn't want to get killed on my way there. And there they were, nestled back behind the trees in an alcove against the rocky sides. Someone yelled for someone to pull and I had no idea what the hell they were talking about, pull what? Then someone ran off and out of sight, a few seconds later, there they are running back with a lizard chasing him! LOL! Then we all pounced! Good times...
Random dunes memories:
- Camping in the first part along the rocky sides fighting lizard and goblins until level 13.
- at level 13 running through the tunnel to get to the other side to fight crabs, and damn those bats that would aggro you and usually take out one person in your party!
- camping on the beach and fighting snips until level 15 and then transitioning to pugs. We all knew screwdriver would be coming, but god damn it really ruined alot of parties!
- one of my parties the tank wanted to stop voking because he didn't like getting hit by screwriver, lol... too funny... i ended up tanking on my drk which ended up being fun...
- sometimes the pug beach parties were full so we would run up to the outpost and pull gobs which were good xp and fun fights. It was really hit or miss though. YOu would either get really good XP or really shitty xp... The bombs could wreck parties...
- sometimes all of those camps would be taken so we'd camp in the oasis just to the south west of the outpost and fight flies and gobs. there would always be that one blm that fired off and aoe or someone did an aoe weaponskill and then setoff the leach attacks and then in 30 secs, bam! everyone dead!
- around level 16-17 you could move your camp to the far east and camp in the canyon between the 2 mountains, pulling gobs from the goblin camp jsut outside to the north east, or the 2 gobs behind you to the west.
- if this camp was full you could go to the entrance of the secret cave and camp just outside, fighing the goblins that are righ there. This was somewhat tricky because there were alot of trees there and trying to pull mobs with trees in the way, noobs can misjudge aggro distance. The led to some deaths.
- around level 18 you could proceed through the secret tunnel and then go fight clips and pugs on the other side. This was a fun party because you knew that 20 was right around the corner, and then you could move on to Jeuno.
- there was always the ninja or the ranger that would run out of shihei or arrows/bolts and need to warp back to the hometown to restock. then we would all sit there, are we going to wait for them? take a break? how long will this take? usually around 45 mins, LMFAO!!! and we would wait!!!! too funny... thinking about how much time we would spend waiting for someone to warp abck, get their shit, and then run back... when people would leave for signet, that just pissed me off though...
- i never once killed the vulkrum emperor and only saw him once, I was too busy leveling my jobs, lol...
- once i got my whm to level 40 or so, i would go back to the dunes (after a night of drinking at the bars so i was pretty blitzed) and I would shout, "PL {do you need it?}" within seconds id get a response and then I'd go hangout with them and help them out. It was fun being able to watch the party dynamics without having to really pay much attention. It was weird, it was like I had been killed so many times by the dunes, i felt a need to give back to the player base... I guess thats the best way to put it. Regardless, when i was drunk, PLing in the dunes was great fun!
ok, i think I'm done. I might come back and add more later. Its fun reminiscnig about ffxi... such great memories creasted over 7 years or so of my life...

I'm reading other peeps post about dunes parties and someone said that at level 10, if someone casts R2 or R3 on you, you don't get the XP benefit of the R2 or R3 because your level is too low. I have never heard that before... Is that correct? Is there a level minimum to gain the XP gain benefit of R2 or R3? I'm thinking no...
