I know, but I wanted to try it. Being Hume made it harder, I also didn't have any Morrigan's gear, and the waiting list for that was super long. So I rocked it out in Genie Weskit and wtf was that earring drop from Jailer of Love called, one of those. And the Prudence Torque and a bunch of other good shit that I can't remember.
I'm kind of sad that I can't remember all this stuff now.
second time Sleep and Sleep II both resisted so I was dead almost instantly,
This is pretty much exactly what happened on my second try, as well.
First try, while I did make a couple of careless mistakes, my greatest misstep was probably dawdling too much in the pre-fight preparations (you know, while Maat was sleeping). So Chainspell happened, and after that finished I believe I got hit with double Asuran Fists. Ouch.
Third try I don't think I really could've executed anything better. I was really in the zone for that one, and was genuinely surprised when it ended as soon as it did, expecting more to happen and generally being ready for the worst. I still have Screen Shots for all the logs from that fight, for posterity.

However much I am actually smart, I got that way by confronting how stupid I am.
That said, I had a fairly easy time of him (I had a few merits from BLM but not much honestly) as a 69 RDM as well; Didn't see why people gripe about that fight so much.
Honestly, the closest calls for me were BRD and MNK - both of those fights came down to the freaking wire. I lucked out somewhat on NIN and got his HP down so low that Mijin Gakure did almost nothing to me. The only fight I ever lost and had to re-do was THF because I tried to steal the 1st time. WHM fight was such a joke with Repose XD
Maat fight is another good one, I think everyone's first Maat kill is exceptionally special. Because when I killed it as a geared BLM at 75 and I practically one-shotted him (convinced if I was Taru and had a few other pieces of gear I could have), it was kind of anti-climatic. But killing him as a 69 RDM was special.
One of my top moments too. Took me 5 tries on DRK to beat Maat. Each run my heart rate skyrocketed; It felt like it would beat out of my chest! Never felt physically exhausted for any game moment before or after that. Engrossing.
Looking back there really aren't too many singular events that stand out from my time with FFXI.
1. When I was first starting out I was pretty much only playing with my friend who got me into this game on the 14-day trial. We were running around in North Gustaberg fighting things we probably had no business fighting at our level. During the course of one fight my friend ended up dying and de-leveling, losing his pants in the process. We were laughing for quite a while after that one.
2. Soloing the mob for my Exoray Mold(G1 item). It was one of the narrowest wins I've ever had. It was a toe to toe fight that took everything I had. I ended the fight with roughly a dozen hp and poison still ticking. I was really proud of myself for pulling that off.
3. Completing the RDM AF set. When I put that pimp hat on, I felt like I was king of the world. It was one of my long-term goals when I first started the game, and it was every bit as rewarding as I had hoped.
4. Joining my first and only proper endgame linkshell: Ouch. After slumming it with pickup groups and a few terrible shells, running with folks who knew what the hell they were doing and were organized was such a pleasure. Of course it all fell apart a couple months after I joined, but it was great while it lasted.
5. When I first unlocked Dragoon, I was in a relatively small social shell, but just about everyone in there had Dragoon unlocked as well. One night we made a Dragoon party in the Dunes. This was back when people still partied in the Dunes, so when we showed up with 5 Dragoons and a Bard it turned a lot of heads. Rampaging our way through the Dunes with all those little wyverns was such a blast.

I miss partying in the dunes, primarily because you could really put together any sort of party and as long as you had good players playing those jobs you could really fuck shit up. When I took my drk through the dunes I was the tank from level 12-20. It was probably the best XP I ever got in the dunes. I hope ffxiv can create a partying atmosphere similar to that of ffxi. I really miss that... experience i guess is the right word.
1. countless things about FFXI including journeying with someone and protecting them as they make their way to the beaudicine glacier to get their last element for SMN quest. (we traveled all the way on foot from Highlands and past Sandy, through that tunnel. barely had high enough level to survive those battles in the tunnel. They had the map, so they pointed out the directions as I took the lead as PLD/WAR .)
2. parties, socializing, exploring, traveling, helping people leveling lots of things and getting AF for PLD, NIN, DNC
3. Castle Zvahl and beating Shadow Lord (tied with fighting/beating Kam'lanaut)
4. beating that first dragon mission (tied with airship), learning new magic/abilities/weaponskills.
5. learning how to open doors and target things instead of running into them like a supermarket door, mew.
oh man top 5 moments..... I honestly really just want to share my most important one......
I would have to say that my all time top moment, was when I first logged in, OCT 31, 2003, 11pm after a LONG install, with a buddy of mine looking over my shoulder, and we explored Windurst for the first time....... *sniff*

hee hee yeah, I remember my original hume (that lasted like 2 months before I remade into an elvaan lol...) and seeing Bastok during the last days of the X-mas event. Oh god, I had such a horrible time getting things to work too, the install and download took literally the entire f'ing day, only to get that stupid error when I finally launched the game telling me my GPU was too weak. @______@
Just, honestly looking back there are so many moments it's quite hard to single out any particular ones. I was just naming some of the "big" ones that kinda stick out but you almost have to take everything together as parts of a tapestry or something. I can still remember the first time I stumbled upon macros, and I was like "OMG this is so much more efficient than stumbling through the menus!"
