Wow Yyg, it's creepy that my birthday is right before your wife's (01/30/81).

I always did a marble for my birthday and my kids' birthdays. I had a character called "Lalitevan" (which is a mix of their two names) and I always got the marbles for their birthdays on that character. 72304 and 10706. I also used my old zip code from where I grew up. I had eleven characters over two accounts so I always got 10 on each with last two digits ranging from 00 to 99, that way I'd always guarantee at least one rank 4 prize somewhere.

I know I'm not the only one who plays games with spreadsheets though, so I don't feel too nerdy. XD

I enjoyed playing my mules from time to time so it wasn't like they just sat there for the Mog Bonanza. But I always had to make sure I was getting at least one thing for my efforts, back when I played it was like a Behemoth hide or something.

i had 7 mules and all of them maxed out on marbles. i gardened with them growing dark ore and sapplings. I made a shitload gardening... it averaged around 800k - 1 mil a month.

Let me explain better because you obviously arent grasping it. Every 2 days I spent 5 mins checking pots. So every month i spent roughly 65 minutes gardening. 65 minutes equated to 800k - 1 million gil.

For some people the extra RL money was worth it, for some it wasn't ... don't knock it. I personally hated farming but it was a necessary evil I would put up with. Until SE nerfed the gil gains from NPCing stuff. Pissed me off.

Nono... I get it... I just don't consider 9 dollars of my real life money/month plus 1 hour of my time worth the exchange rate of 1million gil. Hell... at the going rate back then I could have purchased 1million gil from an RMT for around $7.50, saved myself $2.50 and 27-30 days out of my month. I'm not discrediting the ease at which you accumulated your wealth, I just value productivity and cost effectiveness over method. Personal preference really.

In 1 month of gardening you earn 1million gil that in turn costs you $20.00 of real money. In 1 month of me playing the way I play I would earn in excess of 4-6million and it would only cost me $11.00. I may have played more than you did and spent more of my time in game farming, but it was the end result and the reduced out of pocket expense that led me to my method.

1: I was one of those people who farmed bird blood off leeches, selling to the NPCs until the nerf. I was also among those who would farm cruor and exchange it for Choco Blinkers for profit until that nerf happened as well. Shit happens and you move on. Now I've come full circle and spend much of my farming time on Tree cuttings and Moss from the Goobs in the tree. They still sell for almost as much as they always have and yet nobody has gone back to farming them like I have. The lack of competition is nice... albeit boring. I also take it as an opportunity to skill up while I'm at it. It's not fast... but it's multitasking.
