Seriously though, while it may be already too late I'm still glad that's over.



PS > PS2 support and the new interface may be part of the benefits from this if he was already delegating responsibility for new additions to the game.

While I'm not going to bask in the fact Tanaka is ill, I am glad he is no longer working on FFXI--or perhaps any game for that matter. I think the biggest problem with Tanaka is although he had great innovation during the 8, 16, and even 32 bit era he eventually stopped adapting with the changes to gaming and technology, as evident with his recent blunders.

Apparently he partially wants to leave the company so he can work on games as an indie or freelance developer. Where have I heard that before . . .

He still stands by his health being the biggest factor behind the leave. Personally, I believe him: having two entire communities after my throat doesn't seem like it'd be good for my health, either!

Well I'm sure Wada has been on his throat ever since FFXIV (I'm giving him credit for XI...after I *did* play this game the most when he was the lead man despite its flaws) so it's probably best for him to venture out without that pressure. Most of his peers from the early days have already retired or left a few years back so there's not much of Squaresoft from his generation left anyway.

Is it just me of Tanaka only worked on 2 or 3 FF games plus XI? The only other place I remember him from is Mana unless I'm wrong and he didn't even produce that game.

He worked on FF6 as well, I think.

I know he produced (I think he was producer, he did work on them anyway) Xenogears and Chrono Cross.

His involvment in Xenogears, Chronocross and FFIV alone should warrant him a slow hand clap as he walks out the door. Sure, the guy is behind the times... but when the times were new, he was at the top of the charts.

Leave the poor guy alone.
