Geomancer's design seems pretty nifty, though I'm rather disappointed in the lack of blue hoodies. Should undoubtedly be the AF2. Also, Inb4 A+ Great Sword job.
Speaking of double-edged swords, I'm also in agreement with cid in that "moar jobs" is pretty poor design (not even mentioning the inevitable growing pains involved in including two new jobs with every job specific thing that exists within this game), but I think that SE may have thrown caution to the wind some time in the middle of WotG design with DNC and SCH (not that their inclusion wasn't much appreciated in several different ways).
And on that note, watch Geomancer not do anything until level 10, and the other job until level 5.

However much I am actually smart, I got that way by confronting how stupid I am.
Honestly it's the only way - the PS2 HDD is at it's limits, so they literally can't put this expansion out for PS2. Maybe we'll see a PS3 version at last to go along with XIV?
Ugh, FML I may have to get this lol >_< damn it. Well, at least I have my permanent discount on XIV.
Latest update notes said they're expanding the FFXI PS2 partition from 12 GB to 19 GB, so they're not dropping support. JP site also says the expansion will be for PS2. They just don't seem to be releasing discs for NA, so it will either be unavailable for non-JP PS2 users, or will install like Abyssea did and be a really large patch for those users.
If it's not available officially, there's still a way to get the data files on the NA system, as uLaunchELF has been able to read and copy files from PS2 hard drive partitions to USB devices and back, so the ROM folder for the expansion could be copied from a JP install to an NA PS2 and enable the expansion that way. It works that way on PC, and worked for me when the last Abyssea expansion caused the update problem for so many people on PS2.
I can't think of another job in the FF lexicon they'd hand a massive sword. Granted, they're more known for attacking with whatever they have in hand, but in other fiction and RPGs a great sword has been used.
Berserker would be an odd choice, since that's already kind of WAR's job. It's also entirely possible it's not a great sword but instead another retardedly huge, Almace-sized sword.
I see they're still trying to breathe life into a dead body. Geomancer looks ridiculous.
Well, DNC looks ridiculous and look how that turned out! ...owait...
Geomancer looks like a second attempt to get SCH right. Only instead of pressing buttons, it involves complicated mob position. And BRDs everywhere refused to allow GMC to join their parties. Besides...Feng Shui Soldier?
This will get people to come back, or stick around. It's not going to be a lasting effect, but at this point nothing they could do would have a lasting effect. By the time the effect is waning they'll have some other gimmick prepared.
I'm pretty amused by this. Happy for the people still playing FFXI, naturally, but if they were serious about wanting to keep XIV viable... this ain't the way to do that.
