Game crashes

Hihi all, I recently downloaded ffxi to my pc, i got it working for the most part, but it freezes whenever i zone or log out. I have checked everything I know of but it all seems to be in working order. Any ideas?

I'm on windows 7 with an nvidia geforce gt220 graphics card with updated drivers

Sounds like a compatibility problem with your current drivers or a bad installation. Does it freeze completely or just crashes? Also do sounds keep playing or do they stop when the game does?

And, have you tried installing previous graphics drivers and/or reinstalling the game?

Freezes completely, no sound at all. It just sits on a black screen, but when i log onto my ps2 my char is in the area i was zoning to.

Maybe try running it in compatibility mode?

Give that a whirl and see if it fixes your problem.

Tried it, ran it in windows xp mode but it still freezes or crashes when i zone or logout. I'm not sure why it's doing it.

Guess you'll need to try earlier graphics drivers, and if that doesn't work then maybe a reinstall. We usually leave the reinstall as a last resort because the update takes a while. <_<;

I'm not sure how to try earlier graphics drivers. I dont know alot of about pcs i just know how to play games on them lol. I downloaded it through Steam, IDK if that helps at all, starting to wish i had downloaded it right from square website.

I tried to do compatability mode but it doesn't show up under the properties of the game so IDK how to do it.

That's a strange problem you're having.

In regards to trying an earlier driver. Just go to the manufacturer's website for the driver you're using and search for their driver update history. Once you've got the list in front of you... just uninstall your current driver and install the one that's one update behind the one you had. That typically fixes things with relative ease.

Alternatively... have you tried UPDATING your drivers recently? Before deleting and trying a different back-dated one, you should probably give updating a shot. If you're out of date, that could be causing your issue right there.

ok I tried reinstalling the client, downloaded the pol that is compatible with windows 7, made sure the settings were correct, downloaded an older driver and it still crashes...guess i wasted $20
