Well that's borderline common sense right there, isn't it?

Re: Windower, A Good or Bad Choice for XI Experience?

Back when I played, I found the game downright unplayable without Windower. The first few minutes after an update I'd lose my frigging mind without all of my usual goodies. I don't know why SE has such a stick up their asses about something that makes the game so much more enjoyable for so many people.

Not talking about Windower is a general rule, but amongst friends like your LS or in /t obviously it's not such a big deal. We used to chat about it in LS all the time. Don't be asking questions about how to work a plugin in shout, obviously. But the GMs basically don't give a shit, from what I've read a lot of them turn a blind eye unless you're also like speed haXXing or fish botting or some shit.

Re: Windower, A Good or Bad Choice for XI Experience?

There’s an FFXI version windower now, which you can basically setup in the FFXI config. It’s a simple check box I think. Opens the game in a window so you can alt-tab…that’s it.

As for the actual program with Plug-ins…the way I see it is SE is very mellow about it and doesn’t care so much that people use it, **BUT** should you ever do something wrong, it’s another thing they can pin on you if they wanted to take extreme action. Those incidents are pretty few and far between though. If you’re a decent person that doesn’t draw much attention to yourself, your fine (imo)

I think a very large population uses the plug-in type version. I tried to set it up a while ago but couldn’t get it to work. One day I’ll look into it more, but to be honest I do pretty well w/o it, so it makes me feel like I’m playing my jobs correctly. It is annoying using 2+ Macros to swap gear…but it’s become 2nd nature. I know it would help me out tremendously but for the time being I get along fine w/o it.

I do however need that actual ‘windowed’ version (SE provided one) for the Alt-Tabbing. I’m constantly switching between FFXI sites/youtube videos.

The FFXI windower is awful though. And laggy. And awful.

I was about to ask if they ever fixed it to not suck. Guess that answers my question.

Re: Windower, A Good or Bad Choice for XI Experience?

I'm beginning to enjoy Capcom more than SE sad to say and SE's latest production XIII-2, simply atrocious.

With my little knowledge of Windower I took the time to find some plugins from the main website, now is there other sites that can be used to gain different variety of plugins or should I stick to the Windower page?

I ended up getting Yarnball and a few others. I found one that shows the timer for my buffs...which I think is Yarnball (lol) so I am not sure what else to get, I also found one that has a timer on de-buffs which would be handy in a situation where I get Dia II or something casted on me or like Poison from those pesky orcs. :D

I use the official windowed mode. I was unaware that it had any inherent latency issues?

Not in game, but whenever I tabbed out to do anything it was impossible to accomplish anything.

I tried the non-windowed version and didn’t see much (if any) difference.

Soooo….not totally sure what your talkin about.

It still doesn't have DrawDistance, which instantly makes the game better and even the strictest non-cheater couldn't possibly leverage an argument against it.

If I remember correctly SpellCast was awesome even if it you didn't actually did anything with it, because it allowed for more lax text commands (e.g. //fire3)
