  • Learned my lesson the hard way....

    Always back up your FFXI file before doing a system roll back.

    Ahhh! I have a really bad itch to play FFXI right at this very moment, and I didn't do a file back up for FFXI before I got a virus on my computer (The windows 7 defender virus.), and now I gotta download the entire game and everything again. T_T

    Boo. I guess that would explain why I haven't seen you online. However, I know the pain you're going through. I am shortly going to be getting a new PC and quite frankly I don't like Steam very much. The only reason I installed it was to get back into the game after losing my discs...and to get the Berret.

    I've since acquired a new set of discs, so when my new PC gets here, I'll be doing the old-fashioned install (and making a backup).

        Yea, it does suck lol.

        As for the time... It took me only 13 hours total to DL, and install it all.

          Re: Learned my lesson the hard way....

          Back when I was playing I spent like 10 hours reinstalling and updating the game using my original (and very dated) disks.

          Then I got a vana collection. <_<;

          Steam is probably waaaay faster than POL for updates though. If you are actually able to patch the game directly through Steam that is.

            Unfortunately not R. The download of teh game itself is quick but its an updated version. I still had to check and download 26k files via Se's usual inbuilt download, but it was alot quicker than it did when i had the old disks.

              The old updates were sooo tedious, I wanted to tear my my hair out. Was it really necessary to do an inventory of every single file on my computer before downloading the update???

                Re: Learned my lesson the hard way....

                They still do it just to work out what files they need to download, at least its quicker than it used to be with less people needing to do it now. i remember it taking 18 hours one time!!!

                    Its still download through steam. launch through steam Playonline. Register (though get ID's through square enix account) then it does a POL update. Log in, then play and it does a file check and updates.

                          fingers crossed you backed up you macro's.
                          I'd rather sit out a complete install n patch than have to rewrite all my macro's

                            Good point.

                            Then again a lot of people wouldn't backup their macros on the server due to Windower commands in there. Or at least they didn't once upon a time. XD

                            And I've even forgotten how to back up my macros manually. But haven't uninstalled XI yet. <_<;
