  • Leveling Higher = Meh!

Is it me, or has it gotten tiresome to recap all my level 90+ jobs to 95 (I only have THF 90, DNC 90, COR 92, NIN 95)?

Maybe it's just me. But I would get on one of my jobs, join an xp party, and lose quick interest in less than 30 minutes.

I already know, I'll probably just have one job at level 99 (100?).

I felt this way when the cap was only 75. It's why I stopped playing. It's always felt like an obligation to log in and level up, but I'd lose interest soon after and plan my exit.

The thing is, I used to love to level. While I have other jobs at 75+, I mainly have the above mentioned jobs 90+ that I actually play as.

But now, even with NIN and COR, which are the ONLY jobs I REALLY enjoy, I had to force myself to get NIN to 95. Who knows, maybe it will change for me later, but right now, I guess getting xp makes me want to log after getting capped level (unless I can get groups to finish Empyrean weapon or something).

lol... You know, being COR, NIN, DNC, THF, I would be asked to pull lol... Since the other "pulling jobs" do not want to

While I don't mind pulling, it's crazy when people nag about pulling being slow because I want to claim xp from Dom Ops. NOTE TO PARTY: There are x2 THFs, x3 NINs, x1 RNG in the party. Why aren't one of them pulling while I claim my xp?

This ultimately goes back to wanting one job, then. Cap it on level, xp, and merits, so I can tend to some other things in-game.

I have three jobs currently, so it's not too bad. I joined an XP alliance on WHM and decided I hated it. I got WHM done though, so now it only comes out for LS events. I've been doing WAR on GoV and that's how I'll probably do DNC too.

I can see how it would be tiresome to someone who has a lot of jobs. But, for me, it's quick enough that it doesn't get tiresome.

I originally had two: COR and NIN.

                - THF got to 90 because I needed to farm a Gold Key for CoP - Three Paths lol (still no key has dropped, even after a 4+ hour farm session)...
                - DNC got to 90 because I ended up with AF3+1/2 pieces...
                - DRG is 75, and will stay there (thought I wanted a DD job)...
                - RDM is 77 because I thought I wanted a healing magic job...

But on a serious note, NIN and COR are my main jobs to play as (but NIN had been getting more love due to Aby, obvously). So, the tiresome comes in the form of not having enough time is the week to get in-game stuff done for my job/character: work > event as soon as I get home > ~1 hour of free time > sleep > work > *REPEAT*.

So maybe tiresome isn't the word that I should use...

                  Re: Leveling Higher = Meh!

Leveling up has lost a lot of its appeal lately as I've been trying to raise Corsair. I think a lot of it has to do with the new group dynamics that infest the leveling process now.

While I wouldn't to go back to stupidly slow exp rates, I do miss the six man party. When I found myself in a really well balanced party everything just flowed so smoothly and it became almost zen. It was the same feeling I used to get from playing certain songs in Guitar Hero or mauling the computer when playing SF3:Third Strike, going into a trance of sorts. It's difficult to accurately describe the sensation but it is very relaxing and very rewarding. Exp parties changed and they don't offer me that anymore.

Exp parties definitely changed and that could be the reason that it isn't the same. But, could it be that you have done it already? You have two jobs at cap, iirc, and it could be that even if you had gotten them both there the old way that your opinion would have changed anyway.

I think Murphie said a few months ago (went back and looked and couldn't find where it was, maybe it wasn't even him that said it) that XP parties are a means to unlock content, not content itself.

WOW... I love this reply, Cid. You hit it head on. The only difference is, I CAN tolerate the slow, six-man parties, but only in certain zones (East Ronfaure S, Aht Urghan Areas), but that's mainly due to the battle themes lol...

This explains me, then. While sometimes choice is needed (with FFXI jobs), getting another job or two feels like "work". I like to "play" as NIN and COR. I don't feel like "working" for the other jobs to gain levels. Some call this lazy. I call it unncessary (do I REALLY need to level DRG or RNG 75+? Hell no).

Me: They HAVE changed, and are NOT the same. Tried a regular party, and it disbanded quickly because 1 person got bored, and two others were told that they were spots opened in an Aby xp they could join.

Me: Yes. I started playing Feb 2008 (this was before Level Sync). For the most part, I have leveled and leveled and leveled and merited and merited and merited. I did it so much that my highest Nation Rank is only 6, I am only on Three Paths for CoP, ToAU isn't done, etc. Basically, I'm at the point where I'm working on character progression rather than job progression (NIN and COR keeps me at ease right now). So when there's a level cap increase, I'm like.... "/sigh". I'll probably just keep my two jobs, or maybe one depending on how I feel about it later.

It's possible, but it really started back when I was still leveling Dragoon when everything shifted from six man parties to 'Everyone shows up in Dinner Jackets with Onion weapons in large numbers' GoV alliances. The way they function is very different from how a well oiled six man party does. It's very sloppy.

Murphie is correct as well. Exp is just a means to access content, but that doesn't mean it can't be a pleasant experience at the same time.

I've had an uncanny knack for ending up with alliance lead after a very short amount of time; these people tend to get kicked.
