Can't get a subscription to FFXI

So after 6 hours of trying to figure out how to set up an FFXI account after buying it on Steam I finally figured it out. Now I'm unable to get a subscription (even though I was hoping for 30 days free like said on Steam ) I know they're having billing issues as of the 18th, but I was wondering if there's any OTHER way I can get some play time on FFXI, rather than the clickandbuy crap on the FFXI website. Help? Thanks!

you have to sign up the new way, SE is changing all their billing from Play Online to their SE account system that FFXIV uses.

I've done this already, though? I've made an account on SE website but the only I can for a subscription is with crysta, which I don't have, or by using clickandbuy which says my credit card is invalid. I added the free trial, I think, but now I'm trying to log into the game and it says I have 8 content ID's linked to my account? How the heck do I play?! Help!! Thanks for the response though!

Got it to work, apparently I had 8 content ID's on my profile, all which end the same time xP, and all I had to do was switch one to a new handle!

that is the problem right now, those are your only two options, C&B (for the love of god dont use them even if you can) and Ultimate play (aka crysta)

i was having this problem last night after I switched from Pol to the new SE system. Took me about 3 hours to log on. but after that my CC took and all is good now.

What's the difference between them? I never really got to it since you get crysta when registering XIV.

Also, I heard you can pay using Paypal with one of those payment methods (I think) how does that work?

I'm not 100% sure, but it seems ClickandBuy has a bad reputation. They also told me my credit card was invalid, so I just bought crysta with Paypal.

Didn't they change it to 30-day billing cycles instead of monthly? Or has that not happened yet?

What is wrong with monthly? It makes it easier to figure out that way. hell if you try doing every 30 days they are going to come out ahead and make more money.

I was dubious about using click and buy.
I did look around at what people said and alot of it seemed like rage posting and as usual with things online we only get the one half of the story.
I hardly use my credit card for anything online aside from FFXI my card isnt used for much.

in fact with the change the only shady thing I have seen is on SE's part.
Instead of paying for the usual main fee (1char) and 2 mules I now pay.
game service and 2 characters. seems they don't include our main characters in the main fee anymore. I'm due my 2nd payment with clickandbuy soon but so far it has been no trouble at all.

I will keep an eye on it though, I'm not sure with how much of the clickandbuy fearmongering is genuine or not. With final fantasy forums it seems everything should be taken with a pinch of salt as the frequency of trolling behaviour is high.

What I will say for clickandbuy is dont transfer money into the account at all.
clickandbuy should be free completely provided you only use it to process your ffxi fees.

I haven't played for a while so I might have missed that going live but I was still under the impression you are billed for the full month regardless of the date you subscribed. If that's changed then that's very good news.

Monthly is fine. Being billed a full month's subscription for say August when you subscribe on 31st of August then another month a day later for the month of September isn't so fine however.
