Re: Is There Dueling?
I think I've seen someone show interest in PvP in-game all of about once during my two years here. The PvP aspect of this game was dead on arrival and hasn't changed since.Server: Midgardsormr -> Quetzalcoatl -> Valefor

Re: Is There Dueling?
The combat system in this game is not designed for PvP and (thankfully) they make no attempt to "balance" things so that, say, a WHM and a MNK of the same level have an even chance against each other. You want PvP, this is not the place.
But I love the faction v faction fights (players vs mobs) of campaign battles.Elwynn @ Fairy Elwynbelwyn @ Sylph | PS2 PC

Re: Is There Dueling?
If you want PvP, I suggest you either Try Guild Wars (Free to play, once you buy the game.), as it is PvP oriented with a story line. Once you buy the Game and install it, you can start your PvP right away, by creating a PvP character. The PvP in the game requires more skill than most PvP type games. There is no Dueling in the game though, unless you do have a guild, and do a 1v1 Match. How ever... The PvP is not objective PvP.
World of War craft offers a good PvP setting as well. The PvP in the game however, is not too balanced. During the summer, the Horde looses about 1/5 of the games, but as soon as school season starts again, Horde starts winning again about 5/8 of the matches. The PvP is gear based, and faction based but, you need to level up to level 10 before you can even start a PvP match, and even then, you will have a hard time even on your first character because you won't own and PvP gear. As you level, you can start getting access to more maps, and more Objective PvP games.
Both games have good PvP systems, WoW's pvp lasts longer than Guild Wars, but if you want objectived based PvP, do WoW, but you need to grind. If you want instant access to PvP, you can do Guild Wars, but you will be fairly bad until you get access to most of your skills.
There is also another game if you want to try that is F2P. It is an action MMOPVP game. It has a single person campaign mode, but it is VERY hard to do, and the classes are gender locked. Well, where when I played. It is called Rakion (I believe it is that.). The game is based PURELY on skill, and is just kill your opponent PvP, unless they added objective based PvP. But, when I mean it is pure skill, it really is. Gear has NO effect on how you play, maybe gives you extra Hp, and defense, but that is it, and it i REALLY hard to obtain. But, if you wish to play the game, prepare for A LOT of clicking, as that is the only way to attack.
If you want Massive 1000V1000 battles, try Shaiya. You can get into the PvP about a week after you start the game, but be ready to die.... A LOT! I didn't play the game that much, but I really enjoyed the PvP in this game as some people actually worked together, and it was challenging. Once you get gear, and some levels though, you can be on par with most of the average PvPers.
There was one more game made by Square Enix, but another company took it over, and was only playable in Korea (?) for a while. I can't remember the name of it, but if anyone can tell me, please feel free to do so. Well, this game is much like Rakion as well, but there are three(?) factions, and is 100V100, and when two nations are fighting each other, you can join one of the other two, and help them out. Gear doesn't play that much into the PvP of this game either, and there is a lot of clicking. You can go Solo as well to areas that aren't at war and kill creatures, but other than that, there is no PvE. I found this game enjoyable, until I found out how fast you die, in PvP, and how hard it is to hit anyone, unless you are a ranger, or mage.
