    Re: money/gil

This game has been out for like what 9-10 years? People are still complaining about the money system? If that is the case then go to WoW!

It sounds like FFXI might just not be for him if he's getting discouraged this quickly.

You realize most of this board is in that LS, yeah?

If you're pissing and moaning about making gil this early in your career you weren't cut out for FFXI to begin with.

                Re: money/gil

Ok I'll bite. Making money in this game is tough for anyone. What you have to remember is that the people who have millions have literally been playing this game for a decade and the money has built up over then.

For new players one of the best ways to make money is to fish since even now people are still buying Moat Carp en mass for Lu Sheng's.

Crafting consumables (Healing items, ammo, food, Ninja Tools) is also worth it since people will always need them.

Farming the ingredients to said above popular consumables is also a good way of making a bit of gil. Most crafters won't waste the time to gather the materials since all you save is gil that you will make back in profit when you sell the finished item anyway.

If you have Treasure Hunter from Thief, killing beastmen also makes modest amounts of gil while you level up. Some even drop scrolls, items or ores that will AH or sell to an NPC for a modest amount of gil

Also keep this in mind: having a fat bank is impressive but if you aren't spending that money on improving gear then there is little point in having it. Gil that just sits there is not useful or helping you. I know plenty of people with millions of gil and shite gear because they just want to brag about their huge gil balance that nobody but themselves can see.

And what I find hilarious is that making money on Rift is actually harder than it is on FFXI due to money being utterly useless on Rift once you have all your Soul Spec slots and your epic mount (Which basiclally costs no more than 300 Platinum)

What is even more hilarious on Rift is that you don't even NEED an Epic Mount, a Blue Mount is all you need due to Epics not giving THAT much more speed. Also while you can buy up to 4 alternate spec slots, you very rarely NEED all of them unless you are a Rogue, maybe a Mage and even then it's only if you PvP, and if you PvP as a mage, you are a horrible person for playing such an overpowered calling.

Basically once you ding 50 you will never need money again on that game...

You literally played FFXI for less than two consecutive hours. You are in no position to comment on its battle system, ease of gil making, or really any other system. What did you expect to happen in that short a period of time? In any MMO playing for that little doesn't net you a ton of money. If it does, then the currency in that MMO is pretty worthless.

Clearly, FFXI wasn't for you. But complaining about it in an uninformed way makes you look bad, not the game.

Also, our LS is AWESOME. I have no idea what you're talking about.

                    Re: money/gil

To be fair, it IS fairly hard to make money in FFXI when you first start out (and yes, being level 16 = first starting out). One of the consequences of a player-driven economy based on crafting skill that takes time investment is that it also means newer players are at a disadvantage when crafting (even for "relatively" forgiving crafts like fishing, high level fishermen are at a distinct advantage). New players are also at a disadvantage in terms of being able to swiftly travel from one place to another; materials to craft consumables like arrows or tools are simple for high level players to acquire just by teleporting around using various means, but new players have few options for that.

It helps to know how to watch the going prices for things and adjust, but that sort of experience doesn't just come to you by osmosis (and some people never seem to learn the knack).

Off the cuff, selling off crystals you acquire is a reasonable way to accumulate some spending cash for basic necessities.

                      Re: money/gil

Considering that there is virtually zero gear on the AH below level 30 it's not as big a deal as it once was. Most people just expect people below level 30 to wear RSE. It's terrible, but there it is. Crafters simply have no incentive to craft anymore.

Ask questions about what works best, and chances are you'll get a ton of suggestions.

great way for LSmembers to show support or help out =(
Here’s some friendly advice… instead of complaining and expecting it, try ‘asking’ for gil ideas or maybe asking for a step in the right direction.

and my LS sux since one of its officer Murphie is on here making comments about me just b/c i complained about not being able to make money in the game.
I can understand how that might be frustrating to a new player, but again…maybe ‘ask’ questions instead of complaining. I never played Rift but I’m sure if I played it for only a few hours and started pouting, you’d have words also.

The people here make rude comments to people that are unwilling to do the research. how about you tell us what you did to try and make Gil, and we’ll tell you what you might be doing wrong.

I did a simple 1 minute search and found 2-3 farming threads. You’re probably newer to the site so it might take you 3-5 minutes, none the less the info is there. Do some research, try some methods out, then ask for advice if you’re still having trouble.
