  • MDT/MDB sets

How do you guys use your MDT sets? Is it something you scramble to put on before a high tier spell hits or is more like an alternative idle set for when you're fighting magic heavy mobs?

I'm looking to start building a MDT set for my RDM, but first I want to figure out how to get some use out of it. Most of the time if the mob's going to be dropping nukes it means I need to either be silencing it or getting the hell out of its casting range, so a Magic Defense Bonus set seems like it would be a less than ideal solution, yet I hear talk of how it's a very important set to maintain.

For frontline jobs it seems pretty straightforward. See the mob ready its magic attack, put on MDT gear until attack hits, then go back to swinging.

On a mage job I've usually got more things to juggle so my response time might just leave me putting the MDT gear on after the magic hits, which doesn't really do me much good.

So how do you guys get the most out of it?

    Re: MDT/MDB sets

Some enemies you simply can't get out of range of in time or can't move while fighting. If you're solo kiting, running out of range of a spell is practical. If you're fighting a Wyrm who will think nothing of Tail Spiking you and everyone around you... not such a bright idea. Also, some enemies are just outright immune to Silence, so that's not always an option on the table either.

From a more practical standpoint, something like Jailer of Faith is probably an optimal example of where you'd probably want a magic defense set. Being level 85, his Stonega III / Stone IV / Quake II all hit pretty freaking hard, and the somewhat confined area you generally fight it in means you won't always be able to get out of the way even when you're kiting; that's where insta-gearing for magic defense (or even leaving it on full time, perhaps) pays dividends.
