Well as a person from Remora currently on Leviathan.
I've read both topics on this subject here and on ffxiah and I still dont get it.
Population back on Remora was incredibly low at most times. Here on Leviathan it's a bit like a wave depending on peak times for areas. It rises and falls.

Merging at the moment would make us overcrowded.
I don't understand why you'd have to take 6 people that have just come back to the game. Chances are they will leave again and you will have spent the money for nothing. If you are throwing away free transfers I'll take one for Valefor please LOL ;op

As for social interaction. There's some idiots hanging around but mainly alot of decent people. I gather from what you have said in the other topics you've either fallen out with people or your friends have left. I suggest you try to make new friends or reconnect with the ones you have.

If you can afford to take people with you and you were truly unhappy with the server you would have transferred yourself without hesitation.

A server merge wouldn't allow (force) you to change name unless there was another player with the same name on the other server. Even then, only one of you would have to change name, depending on which server was designated the "destination" by SE.

...although I suppose once the merge was announced, *if* the world you're currently on is the source, you could create a character on the other server with the same name, so that you would be forced to rename your original character, and then after the merge, delete the "placeholder" character.

But even if you managed to somehow deplete the populations of 2 servers enough to convince SE to merge them, it would still be only 50/50 whether the one you're already on would be picked as source or destination. (Or worse -- if SE deliberately decides to keep better known names, Leviathan is practically guaranteed to be the destination of any merge it's involved in. Leviathan was a major character/plot element in FF IV, fairly significant in V, and has been in pretty much every FF since then.)

It would be a lot less work to start a new character and level them up -- sure, you'll lose all your level 75 endgame gear if you have any, but how much of that is relevant now anyway? You can even transfer some money and non-ex gear to help you get started even faster than new characters normally do nowadays.
