    Re: Job Adjustments (04/21/2011)

I'm not contending that RDM complain. I'm just saying that all jobs complain. And as fun as schadenfreude is, I am not a fan of it in these instances because I never acted like one of those RDM, and I never take joy in someone's job being made unwanted.

I love you for that statement. It was even worse when you consider that parties back then were pretty much stuck acting to the whim of the RDM or BRD because players were too stupid to consider using a COR + WHM duo which was every bit as effective considering how few parties were even capable of sustaining a decent EXP chain (getting a chain and keeping it are two different things).

CORs were actually even more suited then BRDs in average (average relating to skill) merit parties since a COR/DNC could easily support a party, give some support heals with Drain Samba II and add a significant amount of damage with Joyeuse + Steel Bullet Slug Shots. BRDs could never contribute a thing to damage directly, CORs not only upped everyone else's damage but the damage they could throw out was pretty crazy.

I guess I just wasn't a very lucky RDM. No one every kowtowed to me. If anything I was the refresh/cure bitch for the party and if I spoke up there were dozens of other RDMs available to replace me.

I never paid much attention to generalizations, there are good players and bad players regardless of what job they happen to be playing.

Trying to generalize them by the job they play is silly at best.

This -- and now they don't even need to replace you, because a RDM isn't doing anything useful anyway.

The problem with RDM is not exp, any job can be ok in abyssea exp; the problem is lowmanning NMs. WHM is good at it, other healers aren't. And half the yellow proc nukes are BLM-only, so RDM and SCH aren't really useful for that either. Reducing enmity will help some, but when a monk is tanking with 4k max hp and getting hit for 300-400 per swing and interrupted while trying to cast shadows, Cure IV is just not going to keep him alive. Cure V-VI will, and without any danger of taking hate off him either.

RDM might still work with a tank that has some def/eva -- I've had some bad results with THF, but that was primarily because the THF couldn't take enough enmity since tanking trashes their damage, so the new trait might help with that. RDM+PLD could probably duo quite a bit. But they're going to be slow as hell to kill the NM or even to farm pop items, because neither one is a major DD -- and if there is a major DD with them, it better be THF or /THF or the DD will screw up their hate control and need Cure Vs to stay alive. Endurance-based fighting styles aren't very rewarding anywhere, but especially in a timed zone.

Looking ahead... player HP will actually *drop* significantly from 90-99 if the 99 content doesn't have cruor buffs and atma, or something equally broken. So too-small cures might be more useful again, especially if people start looking for tanks to tank again. Hard to say. A lot depend on mob design and whether there will be any Voidwatch-specific buffs and how they compare to Abyssea-specific buffs.

              Forgot something there.

And (roll eyes) I'm not generalizing RDMs, I'm referring to a specific type of player who naturally gravitated toward RDM back in the 75-cap lolibri-meripo days. They weren't lamers because they were RDMs, they were RDMs because they were lamers.

Can we stop linking TV Tropes? Do we really need a holier-than-thou website describing common things and giving them hipster names?

And really, TV Tropes has nerdy titles rather than hipster titles.

If anything, isn't Dak's attitude a little hipstery?

TV Tropes has always sucked. Do you really have to reference it for insults?
