Re: Nostalgy of an old school monk

I wasn't really saying ruined forever.
I'm just pointing out something is wrong with the game.
To do anything anymore you do need a big friends list and a high level job to either do something you want to or do something to help somebody else.
I like that in other threads I've been told I'm wrong, If parties exist I'm sure not being invited or seeing them, If I'm creating the party myself. I have a better chance of finding a rocking horse turd than members.
I like the game always have and will continue to, I have the option to cancel my account but I dont want to. I just thing
I can't completely blame the game though, I have 2 Ls's both do abysea and both are aware I'm keen to go and explore, Do I get asked? nope. One does dyna and I fulfill the requirements they set out do I get an invite? nope.
So I know my problem with the game is also my 2 selfish shells. 1 which is full of members I dragged up to sky and to the point I'm at on cop.Once they surpassed me I was no longer required.
I'm at a point where in both Ls see me as class clown I'm ace to talk to and they greet me like none of the others are greeted. It's not like I have a rep for bad performance either otherwise I'd understand.
so anyway aside from 2 Ls's that dont do much with me at all. I see no others to play with by lfp or creating myself.

Re: Nostalgy of an old school monk

You don't need an army of high level friends to get things done. Certainly not to do "anything, anymore" whatever that means.

It also sounds as though you're putting the responsibility for inviting you to things and for helping you with things. How often do you ask? How often do you help others? I mean, it's entirely possible that you're just in crappy shells, but it's also possible that people just don't really see your interest in these things and aren't willing to assume.

I'm not trying to pick apart your experience in the game. I get that you're having a tough time. I just also see a lot of passiveness and "woe is me" attitude.

Re: Nostalgy of an old school monk

Let's see, when I came back in game (about 5 days ago now) I asked where to party.
One of my friends said solo in abyssea, the other said solo fields of valor in teriggan.
What if I am lower than 75? Sync in teriggan lol.
Now that level 90 is available a LOT of people expect you to do a LOT of things alone.
Gone are the days where you needed a full party to get asuran fists or to kill the yagudo NM in oztroja for MNK AF legs (which is considered one of the toughest AF pieces to get).
Gone are the days where Dynamis was considered TEH ENDGAME STUFFZ! Now I'd be lucky to find one linkshell that does dynamis (I still need AF2 lol).
But this, according to me, is a terrible and ridiculous lack.
Now people are not forced to ask for help, which means that people are not forced to enjoy the company of strangers, or to enjoy the company of friends.
        Let's make an example:
vanadiel is so deserted, I can camp all the "old" NM and get the stuff that was considered uber back then.
        Fantastic? Yes.
        Funny? No.
This game became (sorry for the vulgar word) a whore.
That being said, I still like playing it, especially when, 1 day ago, one of my old friends saw me by accident, added me back again, and offered me a new LS (full of strangers, but a good LS nonetheless).
But I just fail to see the fun.
I remember when I was level 15 monk, and one of my oldest and best in-game friend, galka dragoon 65 (which was the UBERNESS for me) decided to escourt me from konschtat highlands to jeuno.
This... this will simply never happen.
Everyone is level 90 or trying to be, everyone camps abyssea NMs, everyone is minding their own business lol.
I know things change, the game changed (and I see a lot of people liked the new features) but, in my opinion ( I repeat, in my opinion) square enix simply failed to improve the game.
They improved it, yes, but not in the right way. Or maybe I'm just being selfish lol
        Signature, ah!

Ruined forever was when ToAU was released. It turned leveling into a two step process: whack as many birds as you can in an hour, then log onto a forum and brag about your exp/hr.

What I think what they did with the birds was to try and make it less painful leveling. They could have done it a different way though.

They should have made it fun, but the mobs that are fun to level on are the harder ones, and no one wants to have fun leveling.

Re: Nostalgy of an old school monk

Well I always assist with things when I can. provided I have the jobs/levels to do so.
I help collect spells for the blu's
I collect items and craft things for free on my mules so people have items for their events.
I booked days off work to be able to be online to do COP back when they were capped.
I drop everything at a moment's notice to run halfway round vanadiel to raise people.
I've expressed my interests in Ls chat and all these things seem to go ahead without me.

The newer Ls I'm in is great well for the others it's great they're doing alot together abyssea, dynamis, missions, They are very active but seem to stick together. I feel most of the time I'm just chat filler.
The other LS is kinda dying out but those that remain still stick to the same groups.
I more than likely should drop both shells and find another.

I dont mean to sound like I have a woe is me attitude, That's really not how i feel. I make my interests clear in both Ls. The events seem to happen but with everyone but myself. I'm the only one that posts regular on both Ls forums also to no avail.
The only thing I can think of is my face just doesnt fit, Allthough I get along with them fine and both Ls seem to say "The Ls wouldnt be the same without me"

so my other chance of partying or getting stuff done would be pickups but even then other people are only interested in doing things with their friends. So that puts me in the same boat I'm in with my Ls.
When lfp I'm not on bst I've been lfp on Sch,Rdm,Dnc,War,Pld,Thf and Whm for subjob purposes. and each one I've had to solo through Fov.
As for "passiveness" There's not much I can do aside from let it happen. There's no point in me creating drama within a Ls because I feel I'm being ignored.
The only thing I can do is find a new shell but I wouldnt have to if I was being included in the events they know I'd like to do.

Why on earth would you want AF2? AF3 is better, and easier to get.

Now people are not forced to ask for help, which means that people are not forced to enjoy the company of strangers, or to enjoy the company of friends.
                Let's make an example:

Less people are playing now. I think NOT having to ask for help on things is a positive thing. One of the frustrating aspects of FFXI has always been having to get other people to help you. For some it worked out. You would help others, and then when you needed it they would help you. But often, you'd help others and then when you needed help it was [I'm sorry. I'm busy right now.] Which was bullshit. I'm personally glad that I can do more things on my own. I still get to interact with people when I want to, but I'm not trapped in Jeuno or wherever waiting for a party invite. If I want EXP I go out and get it. If I want a certain Rare/Ex item, I level until I can camp the mob and then I camp it. This is, in my opinion, an improvement.

Of course a lot of it has to do with what sort of people you surround yourself with. Our LS on Valefor is fairly busy, and the people in it are helpful, but honestly, most of us are happy to take care of things we can take care of on our own. We no longer feel pressured to help with every little thing, and we no longer have to ask for help with every little thing. It's nice.

But I just fail to see the fun.
There's a key word in here. Fun is subjective. What may not be fun for you can be fun for others, and maybe if you're not finding it to be fun, you're looking at it the wrong way?

I remember when I was level 15 monk, and one of my oldest and best in-game friend, galka dragoon 65 (which was the UBERNESS for me) decided to escort me from konschtat highlands to jeuno.
This... this will simply never happen.
Well, of course it won't. You already know the way to Jeuno.

Everyone is level 90 or trying to be, everyone camps abyssea NMs, everyone is minding their own business lol.

They improved it, yes, but not in the right way. Or maybe I'm just being selfish lol
And look, I get that aspects of the game you enjoyed no longer exist. For me that is also true (though in different ways). But ultimately, I think a lot of these changes needed to happen to keep people playing. And the longer FFXI keeps going, the happier a lot of people will be.

Re: Nostalgy of an old school monk

Murphie I see you liked my post so much you had to analyze it lol.

Sad thing is, I see the "emotional aspect" that FFXI played in my life, while you don't seem to feel any emotion toward this game, just a technical observation (well at least you sure don't see what emotions FFXI created in me, that's why you clearly can't understand my previous post).

You ask me why on earth I want the AF2?
Because when I was playing FFXI (the real FFXI) AF2 was the shiznit, and to me, the knowledge of the existence of ANOTHER artifact armor beside the regular one was cool and ultimate.
So yes, I still want my AF2 (and you know what? I looked at AF3, and it looks horrible. Good stats, horrible look).
                  Signature, ah!

Re: Nostalgy of an old school monk

Why on earth would you post on a forum if you didn't want someone to read and respond to it? And just because I have a different emotional reaction to FFXI than you do doesn't mean that I don't have any emotions with regard to this game. I've been playing FFXI on and off since it launched in the United States. I keep coming back to it and I keep starting over, because for whatever reason, I love this game, and it makes me feel good to play it. I accept it for what it is, and I don't expect it to be anything else. If that feeling changes (and it does, from time to time), then I'll quit, as I have in the past.

With regard to the Relic armor, I get that you want something less good because you have nostalgic feelings for it. But most people don't wear sub-par gear just because they like it (outside of town, at least), so yeah, that's why folks aren't lining up to do Dynamis with you.

Re: Nostalgy of an old school monk

With the coming changes to Dyna getting relic should be a breeze, even if most of it is pure crap now. Only pieces I would bother with as a MNK are the Hands for Chakra macro and Feet for counterstance. The rest is garbage.

Relax man, leave the earth alone lol

I really hope the new dynamis will be easier (not crappy easy as the game became, just a bit easier than it was) so I'll get the AF2, hopefully without waiting years since, as you guys well stated, people moved to higher range equip.
I guess I'll be the only one asking for an AF2 lol

And hey, yeah, that's a brightside. It probably won't take long to get your AF2 because you won't have competition.

Or, it'll take even longer since individual pieces can be stored with the Porter Moogle. Lots of people might start lotting armor that they can't equip because 'they might level that job some day'!

I'm just speaking from personal experience in dynamis since the porter moogles were introduced. The mindset went from

'lol xxx piece of AF dropped to me because nobody lotted it... Don't want to waste the inventory... /toss'

                                to

'I guess I'll lot that armor, even though I don't have the job levelled. Maybe I'll level that job next. Well, I might level it some day. At least it won't take up any space. Gogo porter moogle!'

Once dynamis becomes a free-for-all, without any LS rules for obtaining armor, I can see people lotting on armor much more often than they would have in the past.

Don't get me wrong; I agree with you. I think relic armor will be much easier to obtain (except for accessories and -1's) because you will be able to do dynamis more often and fewer people will be doing it because lolRelic (compared to AF3).
