  • Nostalgy of an old school monk

Recently, due to the desertification of all other "old party" areas, I was forced by the fashion to go to solo (with floating books) in cape teriggan.

I was very happy when I broke the (fortunately stupid) new limit, for the level 80.
Now I am 7000 exp from level 76, and I should be happy.
    But I am not.
All I did 2 years ago, all that was considered end game and uber, is now normal.

I busted my ass (is it too vulgar?) to get to 75, to kill maat, to get my AF and to try taking the relic (so trying to beat the dynamis first) and now... they invent another pseudo-AF, they add 15 levels, and 6 scenarios.

I played FFXI 5 years with the selfconsciousness that reaching lv 75 and getting my AF2 would make me feel an end game player and now... lv 75 is crap!

Is there anyone doing dynamis? I remember when -the sky- was the hot thing, and now, does anyone do sky anymore?

Last night I was walking through citadel and nest in order to proceed in crystalline prophecy missions. Man, those places are ghost towns. I felt so depressed lol.
Qufim, Kazham... where did MY game go?! lol

Ah maybe I'm just a nostalgic person attached to the old good things, someone that can't just move on to the future.
I wonder if I am the only nostalgic here.

I'm not even sure I want to lose my level 75. I like being level 75.

Unfortunately, SE finally caved in to all the whiners and now FFXI enjoys all the problem WoW has started to suffer from.

    - Deserted cities
    - Eroding subscriber base, though in WoW's case this is slipping form 30 million to 20. Still a big drop, though.
    - Beginner and Intermediate content abandoned
    - Missions are now forced-solo affairs and what can't be soloed good luck getting help with.
    - Everyone's just about doing the newest endgame thing, good luck with old endgame that's "newb" stuff now.
    - And all the terrible unskilled players we grew to hate now finally have the broken game they always wanted.

The FFXI we knew is headed into its twilight years. Add-ons are, after all, the nursing home of MMORPGs. Everquest has been there for years in a vegetative state where Sony keeps it on the respirator, not allowing it any dignity in death. FFXI and WoW are just now becoming senile, thinking they're still fighting in their glory days and leaping at ghosts that aren't there.

Well man, I'm glad to see I am not the only one who noticed FFXI is shit now compared to the old FFXI I used to know (and to play).

I also hate the change. I found abysses fun, but the exp gained there is way too fast, the level to enter is way to low (lvl 30? wtf!? Should be 70 at least! 75 even!). They should make the rewards from other "mid game" worth while again so people will do it again, and make dynamis scale with people's levels, and drop higher level stuff in there as well.

Reward crafters who sell stuff on the AH that are mid level, and rewards those who level the normal way (nothing too powerful, but make it so that leveling the old way is used again so newer players can join a party, and not be gimp, and appreciate the game more.), and there is so much more stuff that SE should do, but don't.

If you guys allow me to say this, I started smelling "bad change" when *drums in the background* level sync arrived.

With level sync you allow people of all level range to simply party together, like a pic nic, like a happy family, and you DESTROY the classification that was (in my opinion) the fun of FFXI.

You knew that valkurm dunes was the level 13-18 range.
You knew that qufim island was the 18-25 range.
You knew that Kazham was the 25-32 range. And so on.
          Now you know shit.
High level here, low level there, everyone sync with everyone and BOOM, a big vanadiel party with no head nor tail.
FFXI (so square enix) is losing itself.
They wonder why people stopped joining FFXI? It's not because FF14 came out (because FF14, always in my opinion, is boring, and with a HORRIBLE gameplay).
No, people stopped joining FFXI (or left FFXI) because they changed it too much!

Actually.. Level sync saved the game some what IMHO.

Newer players had an easier time finding a party, and you didn't really need to worry about waiting around for hours trying to find a tank or healer around your level. If a tank or healer was level 60, and you wanted a level 40 party, they could sync down to your level, and help you out rather than just PL you through the levels with out you learning much about your class.

What destroyed it was not the implementation of Abysses, it was HOW it was implemented with such a low level needed to enter it.

Re: Nostalgy of an old school monk

Level sync was amazing for when it was introduced, For once SE cleverly put something in that we needed. We could level with our friends regardless of if we had surpassed their lvl. Also allowing us to do it with our armour scaled down so we didnt have to worry about gear. That was a major bonus.

I finally tried out abyssea last night and I do like it, Just as I have said before below 75 you have no business being there at all. The thing is though the problem isnt SE it's the playerbase. We all seem to agree that the only time you see players outside of abyssea is when you see them by the stone guy in port jeuno or standing outside a maw waiting to go into abyssea. Its a shame really but I feel that SE are just telling us to hurry up and complete then move to 14.

I know it sounds like a tin foil hat post. I loved the old ways, I like the new ways. SE couldnt have been so blind to not realise what was going to happen before the expansions went live.

I"m very tempted to join ygg's server and Ls. Problem being I have a my holiday to egypt to save for and putting my cat in a cattery whilst I'm away and his injections so he doesnt catch anything nasty.
I know some people think "if you can't afford x y z then an mmo isnt for you" but Rl takes priority as far as money goes.
I know leviathan can't be the only server that exp parties have become extinct. aside from groups of friends playing together, if you dont have friends you're screwed royally. exp parties was how people used to meet and create friendships.
before the tsunami I had my lfp flag turned on and until 2 days ago each time I logged on my flag was up once again looking for any party that would have me. did i get one? nope. Did I try make my own? yep. Did people want to? hell no!
any reply I had was to do with leeching exp in abyssea and keywhoring.

allthough SE gave us the tool of easy mode, The problem is a community thing, Everyone is aware how bad things are, Nobody is willing to change or to assist others to progress in the game.

As I said before I like old and new ffxi styles but there should have been a better way for both ways to exist.
Soloing FOV pages takes way too long especially on jobs that really don't solo too well.

Re: Nostalgy of an old school monk

Man half my (ex friendlist) was from people I partyed with. And we were all newbies back then, so we were all in the same boat.
Now my new friendlist (about 15 people) are the friends that I remember, old ones and new ones. The friends that partyed with me in the good old days.
                Now "partying" doesn't exist.
You either exp like a machine, or camp NMs to get awesome stuff, or shoot yourself.
The AH is empty! Browsing the auction house is like looking inside the tub after the water is gone.

Re: Nostalgy of an old school monk

Level Sync killed the game. It let everybody sit in Valkurm or Qufim for the rest of their life. Besides, syncing down to somebody else's level ruined all your equipment. Where's the point in having equipment if that's the result?

Re: Nostalgy of an old school monk

I'd rather sync in qufim or the dunes in a party than play with myself all night long.
On bst it's what I prefer but being forced to solo on every other job is rediculous.
Both styles old and new I find great but the new style is shutting people out from starting the game and forcing those in the middle out.
It seems if you hadn't capped out on jobs you were interested in before the expansions went live you are now out of luck.
It's like one of those nightclubs

                    "can I play ffxi?"
"I'm sorry you're not on the 75 list"

This is the only mmo I've really sunk time into, I came from city of heroes. I've only really tried a few other mmo's also for trial or short periods but I've not ever experienced a game shutting out people for joining or just cutting people off from advancing.
I don't see why they are allowing people to reactivate or create new accounts because there is nothing for them to do. Nobody to play with and teach them things.

If I'd had joined around this time I don't think SE would have my CC info for very long I'd be unsubscribing asap.
I like this game still regardless of my issue with it.

Went to khazam in order to reach sea serpent grotto.
                      The desert, the effing desert.

Yeah, either you're lv 75, or you better stop thinking of joining FFXI.
Also I see a lot of people rely on fields of valor now.
                      Teriggan became the new valkurm.

Actually, I'm waiting for IfritnoItazura to come in and do the denials, your version of denial just isn't as amusing. I want to hear how FFXI is still all sunshine and rainbows, where people help each other and have chocobo races all the time.
