So, I know this is a pretty tall order, but can anyone summarize how the game has changed since Abyssea was introduced? I quit not long after the level cap was raised to 80, so things had only started to shift a little bit. Now I hear people don't even party past level 30 and there are atmas that do things that used to take an entire inventory worth of gear? In theory I'm coming back home to the game, but it seems different enough to not be familiar anymore.

Re: Catching up from 75
You can find people that party past 30, even if its not a full party. The wife and I both level our subs 'properly' and will duo as needed. We're always up for more to join us if they want (if they're on Valefor).
Abyssea is the way to level after 75 (or 70 if you find a party that will accept you then) but you will have to have a few hours to make an Abyssea party worth while. It's not so bad if you can just take one evening every bit and get a good chunk of progress on a 75+ job done at once and use normal parties for subjobs.
There are Atmas that you can get as rewards for finishing various goals in the game, like getting Rank 10 in Nation X (achievements in my FFXI, more likely than you think). Other Atmas are obtained from NM's and some do seem game breaking, but I don't have any of them, so I can 't say any more.
There are quests that you can do to solo to get seals for your AF3 as well, but it can be time consuming to get all the right seals.
Of course there are the magian trials, and most of those can be soloed as well. Time consuming, but no real pressure on time and can be fit into a schedule relatively easy.

Re: Catching up from 75
Basically it's like fast forwarding through a film. You stop at the bits you like. Nothing about the old content is relevant and no other zones other than abyssea ones seem to have people in it.
The game is still enjoyable but it has no spirit anymore.

Re: Catching up from 75
yeah alot of people seem to "leech"once they hit 30, and get abyssea access, you can PL in there from 30-90 in a matter of 2-4 days depending on how much time you put into it.... sad really-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Catching up from 75
But you don't have to, and thus there is still a lot out there to do. In our LS we don't PL newbies, and I don't intend to be power leveled to 90. Hell, I need time to make money anyway.

Re: Catching up from 75
You might as well Pl your newbies. They'll never level and then quit otherwise.
You can't gain experience in a party if there is no parties outside abyssea.
What gets me is that everybody complains about no parties anymore but nothing changes.
I love this game I just wish Abyssea had been implemented better.Aside from opening chests a person under 75 can't really contribute to what's going on, well apart from the low mages and their low tier emergency band-aid cures.
What's more the rewards are useless to them until they have leeched alot of exp.
I don't really want to burn or leech any job but it's getting to the point where I know it's the only option.

Murphie has the advantage of having like-minded people to party with.

Re: Catching up from 75
You must be very lucky then to have a server with people that want to party.
On Leviathan I have more chance to find a rocking-horse turd than a party.

Tangential billing question: If I renewed today, would I be charged for March service and then waived April's fees?

Re: Catching up from 75
Probably, because SE is a bit retarded with their billing thing. But it's not like a huge deal since April is free anyway.sigpic

Syncing with newbies is triple awesome on PUP, because a decent PUP (with all frames and the important attachments) is gonna be seriously overpowered synced down to level 20 or below (maybe higher than that, I dunno.) Overpowered as in taking on Even Match without breaking a sweat. I haven't done it much, but I've been surprised when I did.Elwynn @ Fairy Elwynbelwyn @ Sylph | PS2 PC
