    They're not really accessible; they're slightly less insane, but that's still insane. Either reduce the item counts by a factor of 10 so that players who don't have 100 hours a week to play can get them, or don't make something so much more powerful than other equipment in the first place.

    Preferably the latter. Spending a lot of time chasing a particular piece of gear is never a good reason to break the game. Most gear is about as powerful as most other gear of the same level for a reason: so that gear doesn't excessively dominate performance. FFXI is mostly about bringing together the right players, with the right strategy, to win challenging fights; it shouldn't turn into a WoW-style "get gear so you can survive fights to get better gear" treadmill.

    I feel like Empyreans are a fair challenge rather than an overpriced cockblock.
    Fights can be a challenge, but repetition can't. Repeating the same fight 100x to get epic shinies isn't good gameplay or good game design. The only reasonable part of relic design was the shadows and animated weapons; those are tough enough that you *should* get a damn good reward out of them, but SE tacked on the ridiculous amount of currency for no good reason and then pumped up the reward from "damn good" to "they never should have made anything this strong".

    As a result the same content can't be balanced to be a reasonable challenge to a group full of relics and a group without relics. SE should have taken advantage of the rising level cap to retire the whole concept of game-breaking weapons (and shield) and restored balance, or at least near balance, between different gear of the same level.

    Relic owners should be happy that SE is at least trying to buff them to keep them on relatively the same level, but it's still for any equipment that came out 7 years ago to still be dominant.
    It's insane for any equipment to be "dominant". That's the opposite of game balance.
    Defeated: Maat, Divine Might, Fenrir, Kirin, Cactrot Rapido, Xolotl, Diabolos Prime, Kurrea, 9/10 Dynamis Bosses (missing Tav), Promathia, Proto-Ultima, Proto-Omega, 4 Jailers, Apocalypse Nigh, 6/6 Nyzul Bosses
    RDM90, PLD90, DRG90, COR90, SCH90, BLU54
    All Nations Rank 10, ZMs & PMs Complete, AUMs Complete, Captain, Nyzul Floor 100 (5 Weapons, 4 WS), Medal of Altana, WotG Mission 15, 1/3 Addons Complete, 9/9 Abyssea Main Quests, 6/6 Caturae

      Considering 70% of XI's current population are indeed Relic/Mythic owners I think this issue is very, very important.

      If it was a much smaller percentage (like less than 1% of the playerbase) I'd say they obtained the cool weapons when they were worth it, and hopefully enjoyed them for a few years.

      Now it's time to move on to the newer shinies.

          ^ Yeah I'd like to know from what nether regions you pulled that statistic out from.

          More and more people do have Empyrean or WoE weapons now though. I'm hoping to have Masamune 80 in a few weeks, as well as several others for my LS mates (we're all grinding Carabosse & Briareus together atm)

                Maybe by "relic/mythic owners" he means they have at least one raw weapon/armor that drops in Dynamis or raw Nyzul weapon? That's the only way you can fit that statistic to any asshole to pull it out of.

                              Aftermath, dude. Chant du Cygne is basically a slightly improved Vorpal Blade, barring that whole "Additional effect: RAEPFACE" that it gives to the Almace.

                              Slightly higher DMG:Delay ratios on Relics means jack-squat when Empyreans are doing double-damaged attacks, what, 30% of the time? Even if you do include that, what, 5%? chance of hitting for 2.5x damage that Relics have. Totally insane or not (Karinya), the fact that they are any less "insane" at all to obtain than an inferior product is . . . well, the opposite of game balance.

                              With the sole exception of being the method of obtaining them, Abyssea itself has nothing to do with how broken Empyrean Weapons are. Go back to what I said about Chant du Cygne earlier. Compare lolKoR. The difference is clear.

                              Addendum: The only Empyrean Weapon that might not be strictly superior to its Relic counterpart is Gambanteinn vs. Mjollnir, due to the former's reliance on lolDagan for RAEPFACE mode. The exact math to determine which one is better is the problem of a White Mage with a stupid amount of time on their hands, though, and not of me. You could also try comparing Hvergelmir and Claustrum, but nobody ever took the latter seriously, anyway (which just implies, what hope could there be for the former?).

                                It's been reported 30% ODD at 100 TP, 40 at 200 and a whopping 50% at 300.

                                Plus, let's just look at Fudo for shits and giggles and just what a colossal difference it makes vs non-fudo SAM.

                                Tachi: Fudo - FFXIclopedia, the Final Fantasy XI wiki - Characters, items, jobs, and more

                                * Element: None

                                * Skillchain Properties: Light-Icon.gifLight/Distortion-Icon.gifDistortion

                                * Modifiers: STR:60% Verification Needed

                                * Damage Multipliers by TP:

                                100%TP 200%TP 300%TP
                                3.65 4.65 5.75

                                ^ that's insane. Seeing as any SAM worth their salt will be using Smiting Blow (unless they're retarded or doing something janky) you can regularly expect a 4.65 or higher fTP on Fudo.

                                lolRelics.
