    I never really understood this "ps2 limitations" business. Memory Limitations? Why are the items stored in memory anyway? Can they not be accessed by whatever system they have built upon request only, through the means of the wondrous interwebz? derpa-derp?

      RAM limitations = limit on how many inventory items can be displayed at any one time, which is 160 in XI's case. So SE can theoretically add an infinite number of item lists, but only 2 lists of 80 can ever be viewed at the same time.

        Keep in mind that for each inventory-ish item to be displayed on screen, you need to put into RAM:
        - Inventory name (the short name)
        - Description (full name, possible text description, possible stats, possible level/job/race restriction, possible charge/recharge info)
        - Inventory icon (small icon)
        - Item icon (larger icon)
        - Flags (rare/ex/auction-able/bazaar-able/trade-able/NQ/HQ/HQ+/etc.)

        A list of items is just a list of numbers, which does not take up a lot of space on a computer/PS2. It's all the other junk associated with each item that eat up the RAM.

        yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
        Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
        leaving no trace in the water.
