Re: new level 85 cap?.... what the hell
Not really IMO. I see alot of Rdm try to pass melee Rdm off as being able to deal damage like the other DDs, and it's just not there.
Also, the reason I tossed in the little tidbit about enhancing their magic damage is due to a couple of my LS members talking about seeing Blm with the Atma of the Beyond, Novio Earring, HQ Ice staff, and otherwise basic AH/NQ gear tossing out 400+ blizzards, 800+ Blizzard 2s, 1400+ Blizzard 3s, and 2400+ Blizzard 4s. LS Blms who are pimped out in gear are salivating at the thought of what they could do with said atma.
Now do I expect a Rdm to be able to match this? Probably not, but I'd be guessing that with decent gear they could do 3/4 of the damage. So I would surmise that spamming Blizzard for 300+ damage could very well be a viable tactic. And that's with one atma, I don't know what the other magey atmas are. Could be there are 2x mage atmas that would really boost a Rdm's spell damage. So I do think the potential is there for a DD Rdm. But still, if, and sure, it's probably a big if, but if Rdm could pump out cheap powerful spells like that, then that might be the way to go for Rdm DD. However I never see anything about Rdm nuking for DD, it's always how to melee for DD.
But I'm also going to say that the rdm who can do that and the situations that allow that are probably few and far between. And I'm not talking about vs a particular NM or anything. Abyssea is a timed event, most likely LS leaders are calling out job assignments and I would expect that it to be very likely that the leader would ask someone to come on some other job rather than DD Rdm.
Most Blue Mages I have run into are complete and utter gimps with no understanding of the job. Also it is total anathema to suggest anything other than /nin to most Blu. Furthermore, it's Vstylz's attitude and approach to Blu. All of his set spells are typically either DD spells or +stat spells, mostly +str I think he said once. I myself do not like to play Blu that way, I prefer to use self SC or to SC with others to increase my damage. He's also got a ton of +stat abyssites. But really it comes down to how he approaches the job. As he put it, he plays to deal all out damage, most people who /nin are playing a bit on the conservative side of things to survive, just in subjob choice.
A totally awesome idea that SE should implement now
Instead, everybody always has to make sure they add that little apologetic at the end, as if fearing the appearance of foolishness.

I'm more interested in the question: If all these BLUs can go about doing 4K damage spells, why don't I see more of them doing it?
had some kind of super-Magic Shield effect that caused any Sword specifically wielded by a Red Mage that hit it to bounce off and decapitate said Red Mage in an OHKO
