It's going up to 99 actually. Though don't worry too much, Abyssea makes it much easier to level. In on five hour party I went from 75 to 80 and in another 3~4 hour party I got the 4 items for the lvl80 cap quest I got the items , capped exp for 80 and the 4 merit points needed to do the level cap.

Actually leveling in general is easier, but Abyssea areas can be insane.

Heck I got my levels doing Campaign from time to time and killing ep-dc stuff for trials, and even that didn't take long.

Like it was said, Abyssea makes it incredibly easy to level up, with up to (currently) 660 xp per kill on regular mobs that are not unlike birds in difficulty (and alliance kills). NMs can pass upwards of 1-2k xp per drop.

In the last 3 weeks I've gotten a good 40 merits. Total time for me has probably been no more than 15 hours (~25k/hr). I've also heard reports of Astral-type melee burning in some zones with results of 200k/hr, most notably on the Overking Apkallu in Misareaux.

Don't get me wrong though... the NMs there (some of them anyway) are horrendous, and the AF3 is a pain in the ass to get. BUT, the pieces themselves are well worth the effort in my opinion.

          Not for RDM...

But yeah, all the other jobs got some pretty good armor.

And the increase is only by 500 exp per level, not so much as before.

                      Dual Wield is overrated, anyway.

I don't know if 5% crit rate and 40TP bonus will outweight weapon delay -25% from DWIII at lvl 90 on /nin.

Agressor on the other hand would be pretty nice... if it wasn't because I already get +24 (+6) acc from dual Shamshirs and will get 28 (+8) acc from +1 swords once I'm done with trials.

That's not even counting the acc bonus you can get as /dnc.

So, basically you're complaining that a mage job has mage stats on its empyreal? (The ones that have been revealed so far, at least. Nobody really knows what's going to be on the other 2 pieces.)

One-handed swords are, and always will be, lol, and their WS even more so. Anybody taking one-handed swords seriously as a way of killing something is in for a hell of a long fight, so they'd better have awesome endurance, like RDM or PLD, or a non-weapon-dependent way of adding to their pathetic weapon damage, like RDM or BLU. And the fact that one-handed sword users *do* have those other capabilities means that SE would have to be crazy to let one-handed swords perform anywhere close to par with real DD weapons used by jobs that rely on their weapon to race the mob to 0 HP.

Yeah, except RDM is not just a mage job.

Though their healing, nuking, and fighting skills aren't as good as those of the specialists - White Mages, Black Mages, and Warriors - they are still competent. Their real strengths lie in their mastery of enhancing and enfeebling skills when within a party, and leveraging their many "trades" against their enemies when outside of one. Players starting the game as a Red Mage receive an Onion Dagger and a Scroll of Dia.
We can melee just as much as we can cast spells, it is a very balanced job. Why doesn't that reflect on RDM specific armor save for the first AF?

Best part? Just when there's a good mage weapon or armor set that RDM could use SE magically remembers we aren't just a mage job and doesn't allow us to use it. You know, like it happened with Seers or the high dmg trial staves, etc. etc.

But anyway, I just hope the rest of the armor has melee friendly stats on it, like Haste +4% or DEX +10 on the gloves or something to make it worth it. orz

                              Also very important.

Remember you can dual wield a couple of trials and save time if you are getting 2 of the same type of sword.
