Re: Final Fantasy XI or XIV

Oh my days haha, I've not even heard about these trials! Oh wow I'm so behind, I think I left when the 3rd downloadable expansion came out. So this trials content is going way over my head, anyone mind explaining the concept if this expansion?

Also another question I have about FFxiv. Have they carried across any of FFxi to FFxi?? I know the classes have been renamed but are the same and so have the races. What about content wise??

      Essentially no.

Which, IMHO, is one of the reasons it's having such a bad time. They started with "stuff we want to fix in FFXI" as the initial design for FFXIV without paying any attention to "stuff that already works great in FFXI". Or even "stuff that is fun to play".

And it's sure seeming like the people who worked to make FFXI un-fun are now in charge of making FFXIV un-fun. Meanwhile, FFXI is getting a lot more fun than it ever was.

I haven't been able to bring myself to do the first sword trial with the 50 leeches during weather crap. It might be solo friendly, but it's still endless grinding and boring as shit.

In the time that I've had the first trial sword, I leveled DNC to 38 (hated it), SCH to 49 (boring), WAR to 25 (boring), SAM will be 30 (Actually this hasn't been so bad). Then I'll do NIN, DRK and BLU from 38 to 49.

Even all that, which ranges mainly from boring to almost outright hated is still higher on my want to do list then the magian trials.

It really isn't as bad unless you don't do some research to find which mobs are more convenient to kill.

Take those leeches for example, unless you have someone with a lower level job to sync to the best place to kill them on a consistent weather is Pashhow Marshland S, the G-6 though F-7 corridor that ends at G-9 can give you up to 10 leech kills in a single weather solo.

For the next trial Onzozo on wind weather is probably the best choice, and you can sometimes party with BLUs trying to get Regeneration for faster kills.

And just so you know the first two trials are probably the worse by far because of how unpredictable weather can be. The rest the trials you can plan at your own pace.

on the subject of weather trials....

Any STR based weapon having to do trials on Fires day/weather makes me want to punch babies
There are like 4-6 zones in the game that get fire weather, and it is arguably the rarest of the all weathers (light weather might actually have it beat, but /shrug)

Yeah, the game definetly has some crazy resurgance. My LS (which used to churn out 120mil a month, and poo'd relics out to folks that basically quit/moved on/are horrible) is trying to figure out a decent system of Emperyean weapons, since atleast for the dagger and the GK, they destroy their comparable relics by quite a wide margin (fudo vs. kaiten) (mandau vs. Tiwaizaeasrainbowpizzadagger)

If a LS battens down the hatches, and grinds for 2-3 weeks they can complete the stage one Emp weapon, along with gearing out their LS and possibly selling off excess items, depending on luck.

An Idea that were debating on trying:

18 man alliance, start a standard exp party on a certain mob, one that gives plentiful Azure, cap pearl and azure, move on to a mob that gives readily amber light, and cap that also. At this point, leave a 6 man farm team at the easier mobs (such as mandies) and just farm TE's for the Alliance while the other 12 run around poping and farming NM's at the same time rotating members to get the drops for atma purposes.

Anyway..I'm rambling. But yeah cap's going to 99, game has a bunch of ridiculus potential, along with plenty of solo content to focus on when your waiting to get into a exp party or kill NM's with your LS (magain stuff is great imho)
Again, harder than WoW, smoother than FFXIV, surprisingly fun for being close to 8 years old.

Piece of advice from a Trial-maniac:

Do not waste time chasing weather (except for the first 2 trials of course.) Just plan for days of the week instead.

It is for your own safety.

I’d consider myself a trial-maniac as well. Got 4 axes for Bst, 3 h2hs for Pup, and starting my 2nd (of possibly 8) staff for Smn.

Do not waste time chasing weather (except for the first 2 trials of course.) Just plan for days of the week instead.
It is for your own safety.
I’d actually disagree with this. But to each his own. Obviously it depends on the trial.

Seeing as how weather kills now count as 5 (6 for weather & day). I’d rather wait for weather and get kill counts 5x faster than wait for the day to pop and get kills at a normal rate. You also can now purchase your own personal ‘weather man’ to give you an idea if you should wait it out or move on to something else.

While some weapons are a sheer pain, others are practically given away. My staff with Pet: MAB+11 consisted of 9 trails. About 7 of those could be done in one zone that has ice weather very often.
The trials consisted of Any/Birds/Amorph/Beasts/Raptors/Undead during Ice weather. Everyone of those families is in Uleguerand Range…which is almost always ice weather. If i waited for iceday on those...i wouldnt be finished till christmas ><

                ---

On the other hand…my leviathan staff trial coming up will require 200 hounds during rain/waterday…not seeing many options OTHER than waiting for watesday : (

Ohhh I didn't know about the weather update.

Ok, maybe it is worth chasing the weather now after all, depending on the target of course.

PS > I never ever get weather on my trials for some reason, but that's just my luck. orz

Not like getting trials done is that difficult without the boost anyway.

Yeah the weather trails are now much nicer these days. Take advantage where you can.

The pet update is like heaven as well. Now any pet kill will count oppose to just your own pet. Finallly I don’t have to compete with other bsts and smn for mobs…we can team up and be BBFs!!!
