Tetra Master closing down

Not that I particularly care (I never entered the code when I first signed up for FFXI), but I just noticed on POL that they are disconitnuing Tetra Master at the end of December.

They are also discontinuing something called "PlayOnline Plus" which I hadn't heard of. From the sound of it, it added e-mail forwarding and other fluff stuff that most people wouldn't care about, except maybe eight years ago in Japan.

Playonline Plus had a free feature that helped you filter out unwanted email to your POL account, which was really helpful when it came to RMT spam.

Not really a good thing for FFXI players to lose.

Also, how the heck did people get RMT spam in their emails? I remember mine being random numbers and letters.

I love VIII's tetra master. I even collected 2 full sets of the cards......and then didn't want to play with them because I didn't want to ruin them. lol

I liked VIII's game way more too. And was actually expecting that game instead of the soon-to-be-decesased Tetra Master we got with XI.

So yeah not really sad, but surprised it lasted this long.

Various people probably used the pol email addys for forum accounts at places like Alla, BG or other places RMT would scour for such data. I imagine it was the Alla account I established that made me get the mails, because I didn't use them elsewhere. And usually, it was for WoW gold and nothing about FFXI1

Also Tetra Master Online was pretty terrible, considering Tetra Master in FFIX wasn't nearly as good as Triple Triad, which was a perfect game in terms of balance.

Cards just should not have permanent stat growth. In Magic, Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh that stuff gets reset at the start of a new game.

Tetra Master Online was especially terrible considering those that played longer could wipe the floor with any newcomer that challenged them, which isn't exactly fair. In card battlers like Phantasy Star Online ep. III or Triple Triad (homebrew version) someone with a starter deck still had a fighting chance against an experienced player because the values of the cards don't change.

I remember people would hack for the best decks in PSO Ep. III, but they couldn't control the server side dice rolls and having the best cards didn't mean anything if you didn't know how to use them. I beat hackers with starter decks all the time there. Proof positive it was a balanced game.

I read somewhere that at one point, Alla was bought up by an RMT company. (But I don't think they are any more.)

It wouldn't be much of a surprise if they pulled the list of e-mail addresses from the user database.

Well, the RMT run the same bots across any site they can. For a time, I could trace all the dummy accounts they made on LBR and then later see the same ones created over on BG the very same day. If they can run bots to those two (well, both have beefed up security long ago, so its not an issue anymroe), they probably do on Alla, KI and who knows what else.

Its plausible Alla sold info, entirely possibly RMT collected it themselves or used some bot to do so.

All in all, its why I just create dummy accounts for forums now. Even if I forget what the dummy email account was, I very seldomly forget my passwords.
