Could use some help getting started with .dat stuff

Used to be there was a subforum here with the info, but I can't find it now.

Anywho, I find myself disliking how the Blu AF3 looks, and I'm thinking that it might be nice to do some .dat swapping so that it looks a bit more appealing.

I know there were some modding sites for like, The Sims, that had some interesting stuff. So if anyone knows of a safe site to go to for that, then that could be interesting.

Otherwise I'm quite content to work with the gear that is currently ingame. Actually I'm very happy to work with the stuff in game, but it'd be interesting to see what might be out there.

But yeah, I don't know anything about .dat swapping, or what you might need for it. If anyone could help or point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated!

First of all you'll need a viewer like Altana. It also shows the locations of specific pieces of gear in XI's files so it's very convenient.

Unfortunately I don't know much about actual modders, and I heard FFXIdats is gone. But hopefully someone here can refer you (and me) to a good newbie friendly site. I'm thinking about giving making a Gunblade a try to replace trial swords.

I found and downloaded the one for the June update, do you know if there is a version with the September stuff?
