Abyssea EXP groups marginalize the uniqueness of roles across the board. You have gone from 20 jobs to four jobs with several namess within them called "Samurai" or "Bard" but could generally be replaced by anything within the four roles - "nuker," "melee," "tank" and "healer."
If I understand this correctly, you're raging against the idea that every job can participate in Abyssea exp?
Yeah, "nukers" by which you actually mean "just the Black Mages" and not SCH, RDM or BLU. SCHs are going to be healers and there's no way around that. Its what they will be in every Abyssea party, every time. Alliances have this way of taking your wide range of skills and boiling you down to that "best" thing you do.
This goes back to what I said about experience.
You see, I'm SCH80, and I reached Lv.80 in an Abyssea alliance--as a nuker. For RDM, while I personally played it as a pure healer/buffer in those alliances, I saw plenty of RDMs who used most of them MP on nukes, and in several alliances they were used as crowd control. Finally, why do you think BLUs are invited for? Not for their melee and WS output, that's for sure--they are invited to help get Azure lights. Those are not theories--everything I listed happened.
You've been reading people's complaint posts, and picked up tidbits which suited the notions you had in your head, instead of objectively seeing the overall picture.
Not every skill/ability is utilized, of course--but how often do you need the WHM to use Benediction? Compared to merit party--or even the traditional exp party--there exist a wider variety of usage for jobs. Think the only major missing aspect is heavy enfeebling and SC+MB, when compared to the ideal traditional party.
On the other hand, Abyssea exp has new roles/aspects as monster holding (not used in all alliances), light/kill-shot management, constant replacement management (which require further light management), fluidly covering people in key positions during their breaks, box opening, and gold box loot distribution.
The overall operation is really more complicated. And, surprisingly enough, most people find it rather enjoyable.
Look, People didn't play jobs like BST or PUP for years only to finally be accepted because they don't have a significant impact on EXP flow. They're not invited because of what they can bring to the table, not invited because of SE's efforts to keep them unique, but because they can hit things. Is that the best a PUP and BST can do?
While not exactly false, your statements oversimplified what had happened.
1. BST with the new jug pets is one of the strongest, most consistent DD in Abyssea exp groups. And they are still as trouble free for healers as they have always been. (Did I mention one pet can AoE cure, too, on command?)
2. SMN with Zantetsuken (Odin) can abuse it for fast, mass kills when revitalizers are found in boxes (which can drop quite often).
3. PUP. No clue. Automaton nuke, cure, and hit stuff. Probably not invited for any of those, but really, I think they are happy enough to be invited, so it's OK.
It actually makes me miss the elitism of the old days. TP Burn just threw the door wide open, Abyssea rips it off its hinges.
TP burn was quite a show case for elitism, actually; a lot of people loudly proclaimed any party without COR and BRD both was not worth joining.
It is that type of elitism which will return; people will soon remember once again that killing stuff in 20 seconds is twice as good of exp as killing in 40 seconds--whether it's 200 exp/kill or 600 exp/kill.
Except at 600 exp/kill, the 40s-kill group would be making 54k/hr less exp compared to the 20s-kill group--the higher the exp per kill, the more exp each second of delay costs you.

Re: Where is everyone? Can't find a party for days!
Gotta agree with Itaz abyssea is a good thing and is enjoyable to many. In my mind it has combined much of the last 8 years, in both EXP and end game, where you need a bit of every walk of FFXI to make it work great, as well as ppl to listen (hi endgame). BST's are awesome. A PUP can heal a DD party with no effort, or nuke as well as a BLM with no effort, provided they spent the money and time to gear the auto right.
Dunno what the fuss is. Is it cuz your RNG BRD COR are no longer the eviagra of choice?

I'm not going to speak for them in EXP parties because I've hardly partied with one for EXP groups. But we have a PUP in our LS who also has RDM and SCH leveled. For quite a few NM hunts we've done (including, but not limited to: Ovni, Brooder, and Lacovie), he was asked to come PUP over these other jobs because the automaton has proven to be quite a powerful nuker.
As far as pet jobs go, for our Abyssea Konschtat runs, it came as quite a shock to me that I'm actually asked to come BST over my other jobs. People can say whatever they want about EXP parties, but as far as the new NMs in Abyssea are concerned, SE did a fine job in making sure every job has a (more than niche) purpose in Abyssea.
Giving Turul the Refresh Atma, that was a good one, SE...
