Talk about not listening to the community (ie. me) all we wanted was a DX9+ client that actually used GPUs and supported multiple GPU/Core systems to make the game run and look better without having to mess up with models and other aspect of the game.

    We got XIV instead.

14 grew out of the DX9 update, that's where that went.

        Exactly.

Which makes you wonder where it all went to hell.

Tanaka, because that's the only major change that us outsiders are privy to, so I blindly blame him. When his pitch for 14 got aproved by the share holders, he probably walked down the hall, called a meeting with the devs and told them that dx9 was a waste of time/money.
I honestly think he's lost the ideal that is final fantasy, and looks at it as just another money maker instead of the art that it truly is.

The problem with FF14 is that the system specs are so high.
Personally, the fact that I can't play FF14 is the main reason why I am back in FF11. And to be honest, I do like FF11.
I just wish I could find a good social linkshell.

And, I do hope FF11 will soon become free to play.

You're not missing much. I've been thinking of going back to XI myself lately. And as for this,

..don't hold your breath. They'll squeeze every penny they can out of it before they do that.

the only way I ever see FFXI going FTP is if SE sells a license to run servers to someone else, or some rogue SE employee leaks a copy of the server software.

Not on SE's servers, unless someone convinces them they can make a ton of money by stopping updates and just selling in-game items.

The way I see it is way easier for XIV to become FTP than XI. XD

                  And now, off to sleep.
