    FINAL FANTASY XI

    Powers and riches beyond yer wildest dreams await ye. An' other things not quite so pleasant. Things that aren't like t' take kindly to ye runnin' off with their spoils - or with yer life...

    A crazed glint flickers across the old man's eye. Oh yes, well does he know Abyssea, he mutters. Take him at his word, and he himself is a refugee from that sunless, Goddess-forsaken realm. A fortunate soul - if such a phrase can be used - who escaped the clutches of fell hordes that tore comrades and loved ones from his grasp. Desperately he fled across the shattered, barren landscape before stumbling into the gaping maw of darkness that led him to this realm...

    Me home...it's dyin'. And these old bones are long past their days o' playin' hero. But ye, young one...ye might be just the salve that Abyssea needs...

    Looks like we're getting Lufaise (very interesting choice o.O) Attowah Chasm and Meriph Mountains this time. I was kinda hoping for cities but maybe they're saving that for heroes.

    New mobs are freaky, I think in that last shot that's XI's version of Iron Giants, yet another classic FF mob we haven't seen yet in game. BOO at Chariots and Gears coming back though ugh.

    EDIT: Screenies!

      Screenshots have been added to the OP.

      I spy a pimp hat among them. A hat that is, somehow, even more pimp than its predecessors. Indeed, it is even absurdly pimp. The uberpimp hat.

          I'm pretty sure that the Relic hat has more black on it than that.

          The body, however, almost certainly looks like Relic.

            The Rdm is in full relic, so the hat is most likely the relic. I doubt they'd make another Rdm Pimp hat that's mainly red with black and gold while putting it with the Rdm Relic which is mainly red, black and gold already.

                From the two screenshots I'd lean towards they're releasing partial AF3 this addon and the rest (body at least) in December. The Blu and Mnk looks like they have new head, legs, feet, and hands. The Nin new head, legs and feet and the Rdm and Thf I can only make out a new head on.

                  It's a much brighter red, and it looks like it has a gold crest on it.

                  Also note that the Ninja is wearing an actual ninja mask!

                  I think we're about to get the 1st few pieces of AF3 with this set. I doubt it's going to be the full sets. I was also hoping this would be the City zones, but maybe they're saving that for Heroes; unless they do something twisted like Abyssea - Sky Sea and Xarc? (I wanted to say ruins but I doubt we'll be leaving the middle lands.)

                  And again, boo @ salvage mobs @_@

                    But ninjas didn't wear masks...

                    It would have be hard to sneak about and not draw suspicion with a mask on, don't you think? That would probably be about inconspicuous as moving about while 'hiding' inside of a cardboard box. Plus, if you're actually fighting or doing any heavily physical activity, do you really want a piece of cloth right over your nose and mouth to interfere with breathing?

                    Ninja pretty much dressed like ordinary people. At least, the readily visible clothing would be identical to lower class people, the kind of people in authority ignore by default.

                    The masked ninja was probably a kabuki theater invention. One, it makes them 'mysterious', two, it makes it easier to recycle the same actors as different ninjas in different scenes. lol.

                    * * *

                    One thing which greatly annoyed me about relic accessories was that they were placed in zones which cost significant amount of gil to access each time, but on average the drops from the zones are insufficient to cover the cost of entries.

                    Whatever the flaws with the Zilart Dynamis zones, with a bit of the effort the currency drop was more than sufficient to pay for the entry key (hourglass) and make a tidy profit for the members. I especially like the part of needing a bit of effort to convert currency into gil; it's helping people who want to upgrade relic weapon and at the same time making gil for the LS members.

                    Well, in a Dynamis LS which doesn't allow sponsors, that is.

                    Here's hoping SE will balance the reward/cost closer to Zilart Dynamis than Dreamworld. (Anything but Salvage, though. lol. Three years and not a single body completed for anyone...)

                        Says who?

                        You're not taking into account night operations or covert meetings where you do not want the client/enemy/whomever to know your face. And you will definitely blend in a bit better in the darkness at night with a black mask over your face.

                          Why would you worry about people seeing your face if it's dark? And, there are better way to make people misidentify you, like disguises (which ninjas are actually known for).

                          Plus, if I'm a ninja, and I really, really want to cover my face? I'd disguise myself as a komusō ([nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlybT_mfNNo"]YouTube- 【妙音】虚無僧の行進曲【手の内ご無用】[/nomedia]), or a Zen mendicant monk. (The loose clothing is perfect for concealing little tools or other items a ninja may want to carry around, too.)

                          And, hiding from your client? The only reason you'd have clients as a ninja is because they already figured you're a ninja, you know.

                          Lastly, in an area with active conflict and enemies about, you would be mighty suspicious looking as a civilian (since most civilians would have fled from battles), but you may be able to bluff your way out of trouble when discovered by soldiers ("Looking for lost daughter," whatever). If you're found wearing a "ninja mask"? I think they'd shoot first then ask questions later.

                          The only time you'd want anything close to a mask is when you are already exposed in a non-combat zone, and fleeing through a populated area. Of course, if you're wearing a mask, the people around may help your enemies chase you down, thinking you're probably a bugler.

                          * * *

                          Where do people get these inane ideas about ninja? It's akin to saying the military operates like the G.I. Joe or something equally silly.
