reraise earings and bait

i have two questions about ff 11 , i got some reraise earings and i equip them and when i got k.o.ed i just laid there dead? how do i get them to work?

also I got a fishing pole and bait and when i try to catch a fish it always says they are to big or i got this oneand i think it gets off or something, what shouild i do?

While they're equipped you go to "items" from the menu and select them to activate the effect which will consume one charge. There will be an accompanying animation of you rooting around in your back pocket followed by some swirly magic. Once you have the effect icon showing up top you can swap out the reraise earring for a different one and the effect will remain.
