  • Effin Teiwaz, how does it work?!

The Trials of the Magians systems introduced a set of Staves that can be augmented with different elemental affinities. Like, they would say "Thunder Affintiy: Magic Accuracy +1; ----: Magic Damage +3," or the other way around, for various elements. And I have heard that some of these Staves are actually better, at least for nuking, than the Elemental Staves, and that their only downside is that they are *all* named Teiwaz, and are all therefore incredibly less macro-friendly.

Now me, looking at the apparently deceptively unimpressive numbers, I am thinking to myself "how is this possible?" Can anybody confirm or deny these claims, and explain how they are possible?

Re: Effin Teiwaz, how does it work?!

this interested me as YM so did some searching around other forums and found some stuff.

"with capped accuracy 1/4 resist happen 1/421 of the time and 1/8 happen 1/8000
with 90% accuracy 1/4 resist happen 1/111 of the time and 1/8 happen 1/1000 of the time
with 85% accuracy 1/4 resist happen 1/52 of the time and 1/8 hapen 1/296 of the time

"Set yourself at 291+5 magic accuracy (55% landing rate). HQ staff puts you at 85%. If teiwaz has more than 10 magic accuracy over HQ staff, you will see almost no 1/4 or 1/8 if you do 1k test (takes maybe 3-4 hours). Personnally i'd be convinced if you see less than one 1/4 resist after 100 tries, since it's a very good indication of capped hit rate."

"For the magic accuracy staff I got some not too loong tests in mind to determine if they boost mac more than staves. Level 77 QQ poulterer in the ruins have 65 INT and 290 (+/-1) magic evasion to stone I. Set your total accuracy without weapon at 290+15. With an HQ staff or more, you are expected 95% landing rate exactly, so the chance of 1/2 resists is 4.75% and the chance of 1/4 resists is 0.23% (=1/421). If you do ~100 nukes (should take < 1 hour) and get several 1/4 resist you can be almost certain that acc is not capped and therefore it doen't give 30 magic accuracy. On the other hand if you get less than one 1/4 resist it's high evidence that you get 20 magic accuracy or more."

"Given the experimental conditions, assumptions, and previous work, it's safe to say the Teiwaz has a higher magic accuracy than the HQ staff. So I would leave it at that unless you want to validate the HQ staff having low accuracy."

"One has slightly more MAB in return for slightly less MACC, one has the reverse, so yes, technically they can be better than elemental staves depending on whether or not you have excess MACC."

"Affinity: Magic Damage +3, Affinity: Magic Accuracy +1 has the magic accuracy of a NQ elemental staff (we think) and better damage than a HQ staff (+20% damage instead of +15%). Try reading through the rest of the thread for more information."

well hope this helps solve your question. Glad i did some research ill prob go do a couple of those staffs....at least ice and wind staffs for macc and then ice and thunder for mab. since you have to choose either higher macc or mab...cant have both.

Edit: Crap for got to put reference link. Thanks Armando. LINK
you'll have to do a bit of searching in past posts. the ones i qouted started from 11 pages from earliest post to earliest post.

Incase anyone wanted to know, they renamed the final version of the elemental teiwaz's (to allow for macroing) and the boost to dmg and MACC are about:

NQ staff (Thunder Staff): 10% dmg; MACC +20
HQ staff (Jupiter's Staff): 15% dmg; MACC +30
Teiwaz (Thunder): 20% dmg; MACC +10
          Indra's Staff: 25% dmg; MACC +10

Inversely, the MACC versions have about 10% dmg; MACC +40

Edit: I will probably upgrade a few of the new staves for pure dmg but HQ staves still have too many uses to let go (Vulcan's for ranged, Terra's for PDT, Pluto's for resting etc.)

IMHO, I do not think they will ever be able to replace the level 51 elemental staves.

Certainly not if they can't do something about the macro problem.

Except they now have differently-named final forms, now (Indra's Staff, Agni's Staff . . .). I think Lorase is saying that the work/reward ratio to get a full set of these just plain isn't there, particularly in comparison to the level 51 elemental Staves.
