FFXI text bug?

Wasn't sure if this was right place for this or not, so sorry if its in wrong place. Anyways, last couple days I have been noticing that in any form of chat (party, linkshell, say, ect) random "?" come up in place of letters. Only happens to other peoples chats and not my own and only effects how I see it. Other people see it as it was typed. On top of that yesterday it started happening to random auto-translated phrases. Except it always switches it out for the exact same aut-translated word....some japaanese word, I dont know what it is but that doesnt matter. This time it will effect my phrases as well as other peoples phrases and happens to well over 50% of any phrase used.

Has anyone else had this problem or something similar and fixed it? I know in WoW you can just delete the cashe folder and that fixed a lot of little bugs, is there something similar that would fix my problem?

Sounds like you're tripping S-E's censor. If you believe you are getting an uncanny number of false positives I'd call a GM.

Related pet peeve: people who can't be bothered to spell "Jeuno" correctly. I have the word filter on, and I remember a while ago there was one guy in my linkshell who somehow kept on spelling it in a manner that somehow kept tripping S-E's word filter (which I have on, because seeing that sort of language just isn't necessary, and in fact can be downright detrimental to my enjoyment of this game). I told him to correct himself, but he insisted to spell it "how he wanted to." ARGH.

You can turn that off in Preferences > Global. I found it to be very effective at censoring harmless words while a lot of profanity still got through.

Thanks for the suggestions ill try those out. and it wasnt the whole word getting put into "?" it was random letters with in a word. say Je?no or Wh??ega?e something like that.

Yeah, I had the same problem. I'm told it works well for Japanese.
