SE needs to put more into the PVP aspect of the game
Re: SE needs to put more into the PVP aspect of the game
You people are such total and complete hipocrits its unbelievable ive read every post in this thread, and it started really constructively. Not to mention you guys just trolling somebody defending PvP out of a PvP forum kudos on that by the way real accomplishment. Your excuses are all moot like FFXIs PvP community died off because nobody liked it the reason FFXIs PvP died was because SE did an extremly bad job at how u joined PvP. Making it matches u had to sign up for that occured every few hours randomly or having to reserve the area is the worst possible way they could have went about it for PvP to succeed u have to make it easily available. You knock how WoWs PvP is setup and qq that u dont like straight up PvP and u perfer objective type games this just further proves your talking out of your ass, and you dont know what your talking about because WoW is loaded with objective based PvP. You dont want a douchey elitist im better then you are type community are u serious? FFXI has one of the worst elitist communitys out there I mean look how u forced somebody into getting banned because his ideals didnt match yours thats ridiculous. Before you bash somebodys ideas and opinons to better something by saying its bad and that you dont like it therefore others wont. PvP is nothing but a matter of judging epeen the funny irony here is the WoW PvE community says the same thing but the honest reason people PvP is because there's a little bit more challenge fighting an intelligent being then a scripted boss fight that's completely predictable. Generally with the PvP population to an MMO the douchey ones are the mediocre players and the people who are the top of their class / bracket seem to be very well composed and very nice players, who usually help people who want it in PvP and dont turn somebody away because they havent accomplished as much as you which is the PvE version of elitism thats rampant in FFXI. Before you bash somebody and make assumptions saying they will be bad for the community look in the mirror. Also if your wondering why that guy accused the Bias'd Mods for trolling? ITS BECAUSE THEY WERE TROLLING if you read this thread with an open mind everyone who wanted PvP was making valid points to how it could be viable and the little changes need to do so but all anybody did was tell them they were wrong and how it would destroy your game if offering a total counter opinion based on ignorance devoid of a base isnt trolling I dont know what is.
See, the thing about "Fair and Balanced" is that it means you have to tell outright lies most of the time. The truth isn't balanced, and that's not our tagline.
Re: SE needs to put more into the PVP aspect of the game
A number of people in this thread have made a fair few unfair accusations about the PvP crowd in MMOs, as Deathwish pointed out (I refuse to type leetspeak, so it's Deathwish, I'm ashamed I even know that).
FFXI hasn't kept a friendly community for a lack of PvPers, there are plenty of dickbags in PvE too, I've met my fair share (In FFXI and other MMOs). If you think any ninja looter out there is worse than a teabagging FPS player, you're simply full of yourself. Both PvE and PvP will lure in dumbasses, this is primarily due to the fact that 99.9% of the people on the internet fall under said category (Gotta love made up statistics).
The reason, by my opinion, that FFXI has kept a relatively good community, from what I've seen of it, is that it's a bit more difficult and harsher than many MMOs out there. This means that said air-wasters are all pushed away from the game before it even gets interesting, I'm willing to bet that half of the people who've tried this game only to choose it wasn't for them decided to leave the moment after their first de-level. PvP doesn't ruin a community.
As for my opinion on PvP in FFXI, from what I've seen of the game I think it's far too built up around PvE with nothing in the way of support for PvP (alternate damage tables, skill variants, alternating spell effects, etc.) that it shouldn't be a prime focus. This isn't to say it wouldn't be fun, but with how much content there is in the game, with seemingly no real support for PvP I think SE would just be wiser to focus on giving players the chance to PvP in XIV, and learn from their mistake in XI.
Before anyone jumps down my neck on that statement, this isn't to say FFXI is a bad game in any regard, and a focus on PvE is more than acceptable, but a MMO is supposed to be about longevity and therefore should feature variety. Including every element that players enjoy in a game isn't "selling out" and it surely won't ruin the game, it'll just make the game all the more interesting for other individuals.
Not sure if this wall of text made complete sense, a wee bit tired, but I suppose I'll stop it here, in case I come out looking like a fool I suppose I'll end on the note that work can bite me, and don't all nighters suck almightily.

You're too hard on yourself. It wasn't a wall of text.

Whoah, slow down there chief. It almost sounds like you're making sense. I don't feel de-leveling is a negative thing though. My friend and I had a good laugh over it when we were first starting out.
Re: SE needs to put more into the PVP aspect of the game
Well, you're pretty much proving every statement he made true.
We can /thread now, this is turning into troll haven.
In the moonlight, your face it glows.. like a thousand diamonds, I suppose.
And your hair flows like.. The ocean breeze...
Not a million fights could make me hate you, you’re invincible. Yeah, It’s true.
It’s in your eyes, where I find peace.
Well, you're pretty much proving every statement he made true.
If you want to hang all your hope on someone who couldn't pass grade 3 language arts that's fine, but don't expect anyone else to take someone who appears to be bordering on illiterate seriously.
Also, if anyone pointing out that mess of letters is not an argument is proving his points, if he actually had any they're obviously off topic and are hardly boosting your own position. Well, I don't know, it might be boosting your 'poor me, everyone is against me' position you've taken.

Whoa, whoa, whoa now, ...I almost made sense? Crap, clearly my writing isn't translating my incredible insanity well enough.
And yeah, I agree, I think de-leveling is a pretty cool element of FFXI, just pointing out that reasons like the XP loss and the harsh circumstances you're thrown into upon booting up FFXI are the reasons for a more mature community, not the lack of a good PvP mechanic.
I have to say, Deathwish really wasn't that bad, and yes, Mhurron, his points are being proven by some of the responses. His post, in a nutshell, boiled down to insulting the FFXI community for being douchey and biased, which, don't get me wrong, is far from the right way to approach an argument, but yes, the people responding in the manner they are are only furthering his points.
They're essentially trolling, which I've never known to be considered anything but douchey....or hilarious if done right, this however isn't good trolling.
EDIT: On a side note, Grizzlebeard, your avatar is damned incredible.
