How can it be that everything has a set timer duration BUT these two very important spells?

Seriously, the amount of times I have died because my sneak decided to last 3 seconds instead of longer is...over the top.

This is the one thing they need to fix.

thats how it has always been, and intended, its so you can not time it, and always have it casted on you

Sneak and Invisible have weak durations because there are purchasable versions of the effect that are superior to it. Why should some cheap spell be as effective as the items other jobs constantly have to shell out gil for? This is why the Ninja Tools and item versions are better. They paid a premium, you didn't.

If you want to get the most out of Sneak and Invis as a spell, look for wind-weather conditions. If a SCH is in PT, ask for the Windstorml effect, it will increase the duration on Sneak and Invisible because the elemental affinity of those spells is wind.

When level 45 is subbable, Windstorm will unlock for other jobs at level 90 with /SCH sub. But that's months off.

Given how old the spells are, I would say it was just more bad design on SE's part. Would be nice if the duration was based on enhancing skill for the love of God.

Also, S&I (spells) aren't nearly as bad as spectral jig.

Yes, totally bad design, which explains why the item versions are more effective.

Spectral Jig is also free a Job ablity. Camouflage, too. Considering Camouflage has a longer recast, though, it should be better and it is better for this reason. Both also follow the same conditions as Sneak and Invisible - they are wind-based job abilities (oooh, pretty green icon next to them).

You need to think about gil cost vs MP cost here.

It was actually rather unfair that RNG and NIN had to go on so long in the game without some conservation method for tools and ammo. Scavenge, like Steal, was a nice way of nudging RNG and THF to consider crafting, but other conservation techniques were needed sooner.

As it stands, though, Ninja Tool Expertise and Recycle are like the Conserve MP of NIN and RNG. Everyone tears there eyes out over how much COR has to spend, but they eventually get to swing around a multihit weapon and can substitute a card for a bullet once a minute.

But again, what the COR pays for to do Quick Draw tends to be quite effective. I see fewer resistances on Light Shot than BRD does on Lullaby because BRD as a lower timer and two tiers to spam. I'm using an item.

And its the same way with RNGs enfeebling ammo. For all the other weapons that have a proc effect in the game, the ones that can be used in melee are less effecting because they get more FREE opportunities to use it. That arrow or bolt only gets one chance to be effective, that's why its effects regularity land.

Are you seeing a pattern here?

The players that spend are the players that get something more effective.

I've never had an issue with sneak and invisible. When the first warning comes up, its when you got 30 seconds to dispell, and re-apply it. Other than that, it works perfectly fine. Also, if you are Rdm, they can last for some good duration as well. I've never had them go away at a bad time. Just find a safe spot to reapply them, and continue.

The costly ones are more efficient because they do cost money as said before. I don't want to shell out 3k for something that will last for only 30 seconds. I want the full timer on something I spent money for, especially if I took time out of leveling, or what ever to go and farm for the money.

              tl;dr explanation:

Ice weather and Iceday will decrease the duration, sometimes dangerously so.
Likewise, wind weather and Windsday will increase duration.

Because you're not intended to wander about Vana'diel in a world of luxury with no risk. Suck it up.

If you can't fight like a man, learn to sneak around without being seen, it's one of the easiest things to learn about FFXI, and it will have huge payoffs. Aggro is not a confusing concept. If something aggros to sound, either don't get near it, or use sneak. If something aggros sight, don't walk in front of it, and don't go behind it if it might turn around. If it aggros blood, keep your HP up. If you aggro something that tracks by smell, try to run through a body of water or deodorize yourself. All of the times in FFXI when you most badly need to sneak you're going to be in places that are hard to juggle spells in anyway, or which just plain have True Sight/Sound mobs. If you need to replace sneak and invis in the middle of Ro'Maeve, and you're trying not to use your oils and powders, you'd better the fuck know how to get somewhere you're not going to aggro magic. If you need to get through the true sight beastmen for your genkai, you'd better know how to get around true sight mobs without being seen, because you're a very lame person if you don't solo that one.

tl;dr : Stop bitching, and run back and forth between the nations at level one sometime to learn how to sneak properly.

Eh, be that as it may it does seem rather silly that no matter how much your skill increases you can't control the effects of two low ranking spells.

If you learn the proper skills you don't need those spells.

In certain areas, you do need them.

You where pretty harsh in your last post. The True Sight mobs that you needed to get past are annoying as hell. I needed help on that quest to get the items. Besides, you HAVE to kill them in order to get the item anyways. You can run up, get the item, then run away to the next one. Unless they changed it then yea, you can.

There's never a place in the game the spell versions become requisite. So long as you have sneak oils, powders and ninja tools you're fine

Soloed it on both characters, second time I didn't even use magic.

Warp item equipped, tag while they're not in range and warp out.

Does it really behoove players to make consumable items part of their strategy?

Spectral jig is tits, if you have the AF and AF2 pieces macro'd in. I get 3min30sec on chocbo Jig, and never less than a minute on sneak and invis, but since i'm 90% /nin i usually just stick to Mono and Tonko. However the real nice thing about Spectral Jig is the fact that you can raise up, in a crappy area, and Waltz+Jig yourself relativly safe, almost instantly.

*Just realized your probably subbing /Dnc so yeah, specratl jig does suck when it's low like that.* Also +25% Movement speed when subbing /dnc!!!!
