How dead has the game become since I stopped playing (July-August 09)? This is a little worrying and not encouraging me to resub at all really...

Well, since last fall, one of my endgame shells has imploded from lack of attendance, another has cut back its run schedule from lack of attendance and lack of people with enough RL time to hold down leadership positions, and the third is suffering from chronic low attendance but still manages to get enough to do runs. So far.

I detect a clear pattern here, although to be fair, one of those shells was started as an offshoot of another, so it would stand to reason that low attendance would hit them together. Everyone's attendance is crappy around the holidays and a shell that relies on half a dozen (or less) officers is vulnerable to stuff that happens in their RL lives.

In the long term the bigger threat may be lack of people with both the time and interest to organize. It's easy to go along with someone else's plan, but not so easy to make the plan yourself and communicate it to everyone else that needs to know it -- and then take responsibility for changing it if necessary, too.

Depends *Shrug*,

The shell i'm in now has a mix of Tiwanese (sp) and NA's with some EU's thrown in the mix. We have around 20-30 Active members and pretty much always have people at events and for HNM's. That being said, we don't have much competition either.

If your dedicated, there's a good chance you can find players that are just as dedicated as you. Just gotta be motivated to search them out.

Not quite, but usually never more than 40-50 in the zone during windows

For instance, we hadn't been camping fafhog in 3-4 weeks, got a tip that it was day 7/day4 HQ chance, so we went after we killed DI, missed 1st window, we got claim on 2nd window (HQ) there was only about 20 other people from 2 different LS's there.

I would say because you didn't read the details.

You get one number per SE account (not POL account) and have to specify the character and the rewards you want... if someone chooses their ONE number to go to a mule, they're an idiot.

Be realistic. This is their last year 'til 14 takes the spotlight. What the hell do they have to lose?

May as well go out with a bang. People who subscribed in the last year could say "yeah, I remember at FFXI's high point, it was crazy. The devs were awesome, and they were always giving shit away. What a great game..."

And they conveniently forget the 400 hours they'd spent farming throughout their FF career.
