  • Final fantasy XI: Continue on PC or XBOX 360

Well guys I posted on here earlier as a complete newb and to my surprised I have learned a TON in the past few days some good, some bad. But I'm definitely going to continue the game for a very long time as far as i can tell. Now another question imposes on me. I have been planning on buying an Xbox 360 for the past few months and wondering if it would be worth it to play it on the Xbox 360 due to the graphics upgrade and the use of the controller i think would make the game more easier than using the keyboard, but I could be completely wrong. Also I play for long periods of time, would the Xbox 360 have trouble with getting too hot because i have heard horror stories about that. Just let me know guys i would really love to convert just wanna know the pros and cons before i go out and drop some cash on it. Thanks in advance!

I'd say it's probably personal preference more than anything.

The only big difference I can think of off the top of my head is that with the PC version you can use third party tools like Windower, which are widely used, not allowed, yet widely accepted among the playerbase.

I've also heard that the native draw distance on the 360 is greater so you can see things farther away than a PC user, but I guess that falls into the whole graphics upgrade you mentioned.

Personally, I love using the keyboard and couldn't imagine doing it with a controller, but then I'm sure there are folks on the opposite end of the spectrum as well.

Let me clear some things up here.

There is no graphics upgrade on the 360 version, its just set at a higher resolution, and thus can easily be done on PC as well.

The only thing "enhanced on the 360 is the draw distance, and to be honest that does nothing but let you see scenery (not mobs) further away.

The PC can use a controller, PS2 (with a converter) or a 360 USB controller works as well (trigger buttons have to be mapped with a program called Xpadder) or just a plain old USB controller designed for a PC.

FFXI was designed for the PS2 first, and using a controller is the default setup for the game, but a keyboard and mouse can be used.

One big thing about the 360 version as well, is that it can not handle big player events, 360s tend to slow down or even freeze in things like Campaign Battle or Besieged.

Also for PC, you can get FFXI to look really good if you do this.....Enabled higher resolution on background textures

and I am not even mentioning the things you can do with Windower, since we are not really suppose to ;p use google to find that stuff out, but its great as well, oh and use it at your own risk......

What about the whole xbox 360 getting too hot after to long of play time? Anyone have any idea if they can deal with someone who plays 5 - 10 hours at a time, I wouldnt like my Xbox 360 to meltdown. I know they have cooling accessories but are they even worth a crap?

360s are nice, but the main problem with FFXI is that is was made for PS2 first, then ported over to PC and 360, the problem there is that it was ported poorly, and for some reason, (now this is just my experience) I have noticed that the 360 get hotter faster, playing FFXI then other 360 games.

To answer you question, yes and no, it should be able to handle you playing that long (if you get a new 360 with the newer motherboard/chips) but you might have trouble doing the mass player events I mentioned before.

Don't put the 360 in any cubby holes, shelves with enclosed backs, or any other slightly enclosed spaces, always place your 360 in a nice open area.

Re: Final fantasy XI: Continue on PC or XBOX 360

I have two accounts so I play on both my 360 and PC.

Graphics wise, like Kailea says, you can make your PC look better than the 360. You have more options regarding that with the PC.

As for over heating and the "Lag" Kailea mention, I don't have either on my 360, It might be how Kailea has her internet hooked to the 360, as in if it's wireless or wired, I'm wired...too cheap to buy the wireless adabtor, but yea I've had mine on for 14hrs and no overheating whatsoever.

Now the only thing I have noticed with the 360, is that after I zone into a new zone, it will pause after 5-10 secs, for like 2 secs, then it's fine again until i zone again. With the 360 you have better way of chatting vi xbox live, which is finiky at best with our group for somereason.. YOu can chitchat using the PC too, but I find it way more convient with the 360.

And you can get an keyboard with the 360, or a controler keyboard which get some getting used too. If you do get a keyboard, make sure you get and extension cord for the USB or (i don't know if there is one) a wirelss keybaord, I'm sure M$ has made some for the 360 to be sure.

Thats the thing I like about PS#, it sits perfectly in a nice little space under my TV and never over heats lol.

              But back on topic.

EWven though the game was designed for PS2 when it first came out, it might be easier (IMO) to play with a keyboard.

Getting to the macros is faster. You do not need to wait for them to show up with the keyboard. Just hit Alt+# and macro will go off instantly.

I played both PS2 a while back and now PC.

The PS2 was nice as well. Could sit back in a nice comfy chair all day, and play the game. ((But there was always the chance that you caould fall asleep from being too comfy at night XD))

its not the network connection, its the system. and yeah you will end up getting a keyboard anyway, or have fun trying to spell out full sentences with a software keyboard ;p

people need to stop scarring the new people that want XBox 360s, the newest ones have many new adjustments to then chip sets and motherboards, that make it much more reliable then any previous. The reason why some peoples keep breaking after being sent in to service, is because MS keeps fixing them with the older boards -.-

I'm with you man.I've had my same 360 since 2006, leave it on for sometimes days at a time (3-4 days). Then jump on and have no issues with overheating. I'm still shocked that as many RRoD's are going around within the past few years that I've never had one. I will admit that I sometimes have Dirty Disk Errors, but after installing the games to the hard drive I have no problem. I used to play FFXI on 360 for at least 3-5 Hours every day, then I bought the PC version.

that has nothing to do with what I was talking about, the problem is fixed, with the new systems, and them replacing with the old boards was a while back anyway, they have since stopped doing that. Hell I am not telling the person that there is nothing wrong with the system, but atleast if he bought a new one now, he is much better off then he would have been even a year ago.

I am a Nintendo man myself, but I have a 360 for the games I like to play as well, I hate MS.... god do I hate them, but their system is ok, not great, but ok, and at least they stick to their plan, unlike Sony who keeps taking crap out their system -.-

Yes, but if they are reparing their new systems with old mother boards instead of new ones, and not getting rid of their old ones (which are crap), then it seems as if they are not caring about the customers.
