I think the Dunes still holds the record for most players blinded. I know my friend could hardly see in there because of his TV.

May be a while away, but I really like the outside area of Sky (access after ZM 13 I think).

Going up the teleports to where you pops the gods and looking at the whole area is pretty cool. I wish that while your up there you could look at the level below and see people run by.

          SEA IS AWESOME!

Sorry, Madjo, you're quite a ways away from it.

But it's such a fascinating area (the outdoor bits, I mean). Take a normal outdoors place like la theine plateau. Flood the place (so some trees and other details are caught half underwater). Now make the water solid (even though it seems to be quite liquid and pass-able to the local fauna), and players can run across the surface and see strange things underneath. Then, since the entire thing is fake and looks like corrupted data, invert the colors so everything is weird pinks and blues. And since it's falling apart with age, include lots of spots where the tileset is wearing through and the surface textures are broken.

It's just so many interesting levels of detail.

Too bad the only thing you do with Sea access is go kill stupid shit for hours on end in the building that looks exactly like delkfutt's tower, fei'yin, and the insides of Sky zones (all the same color as the Teleport crags, btw). Total BS.

Sea is beautiful. All the places IceMage mentioned are beautiful and some of my favorite spots.

There is one place I've never seen and just never got around to checking and that's some kind of icey valley or something you can view after you exit the Brothers BC out in Uleguerand Range. An old Taru RDM friend of mine said he loved that sight most of all out of the game.

I still love when I see a rainbow appear over the Holla crag in La Thiene. Everytime a rainbow appears, a new summoner is born. Awww lol

              Favorite current places:

              Waterfall in Jugnar
              Boat to Al Zhabi
              Wajoam Woodlands
              Lufaise meadows

The thing I love the most about this game are the little attentions to detail everywhere. Just look up and you'll see hawks soaring or shooting stars.

              I'd post a video if I wasn't under 10 posts here. lol.

One of my absolute favorite pieces of scenery is in yuhtunga jungle on the way to SSG/Norg. Something about dropping into a tunnel and running towards a wide open tropical waterfall area always puts me in a good mood. It’s weird….but I don’t care.

Waterfalls tend to make people think of something else.

Honestly most beautiful place to me is still Sky the first time I went up there, mostly cause with Windower I didn't have shitty default Drawdistance, so I could see super far. That + having the ingame music on when I zoned into Ru'Aun Gardens made it look awesome.

                    Re: Pretty Places

Is there a way to fix draw distance with the native FFXI client or is Windower the only way to improve it?

                        Re: Pretty Places

There is an FFXI version of Windower on the client.

I've found using it and, since my screen on my laptop is rectangular, I just keep it in a square and the image is perfectly clear.

This was one of the first sights in FFXI that really caught my eye. Gorgeous

Alotta names escape me atm... medz

Top of that mountain you have to get to the top of in order to get the pop item for the Hagun fight... Mt Zayalome??? Whole zone is pretty nifty with all the giant boulders and antlion mobs. I've always liked that place. Even climbing that mountain is kinda fun for me (360 controller seems way easier to navigate with)

I also really like the goblin and moblin Malvopolus towns outside Basty are pretty interesting too. But I gobbies... and wear my Goblin Coif ... all the time.

I totally agree with the western waterfall outside of Tavnazia... that place is awesome... I also really liked the broken floating areas CoP get you thru where you nab the Soboro (among other things), Sea is pretty awe inspiring too... the Promies are pretty creepy but beautiful. Sky's entrance room from Ro'Maeve impressed the hell outta me... wish there was more areas like that with the rainbow footsteps (Maybe there are; haven't done much Sky exploration yet)

Windy Walls is a pretty awesome city zone... love that huge tree.

I like The Boyahda Tree and Crawler's Nest on a similar level. Very lush.

... gah.. all I can think of before I have to go to lunch...

That would be Parradomo Tor in Attohwa Chasm.

Fun fact: It actually has a name. It's called "Cascade Edellaine".

I also really liked the broken floating areas CoP get you thru where you nab the Soboro (among other things)
                              Riverne.

Sea is pretty awe inspiring too...
Al'taieu is nice up until about the first time a giant jellyfish lands on your hand and hits you for 400 damage. The whole zone is cool in an Andy Warhol sort of way, but the high contrast theme hurts my eyes after a while.

the Promies are pretty creepy but beautiful.
I don't like how Promyvion looks at all. It's cool, but it's not supposed to look good, per se.

Sky's entrance room from Ro'Maeve impressed the hell outta me...wish there was more areas like that with the rainbow footsteps (Maybe there are; haven't done much Sky exploration yet)
Hall of the Gods. Mentioned earlier in this thread. Pretty sure the walkway at the top of the Hall is the only spot with the odd rainbow footsteps unless my memory fails me.

Windy Walls is a pretty awesome city zone... love that huge tree.
I like the inside of the Star Tree (Heaven's Tower) more than Windurst Walls, personally.

I like The Boyahda Tree and Crawler's Nest on a similar level. Very lush
I can't stand any part of The Crawlers' Nest. Spent waaaaaaaay too many hours levelling in that place.

The Boyahda Tree has its moments. The tree in the lake close to the entrance to the Cloister of Storms is sort of neat.

                              ---

A few more places that tickle my memory:

The central room inside Dragon's Aery (where Fafnir/Nidhogg spawns) with all the Darters.

The approach/entrance to the Temple of Uggalepih in Yhoator Jungle.

The arena entrance point at Bearclaw Pinnacle.

The giant sand whirlwind that appears during double Earth weather in Altepa Desert.

                              The shoreline on Purgonorgo Isle.
