Probably doesn't help that every possible theory gets dismissed in seconds, whether it was actually tried or not.

1000x this. I predicted MV would be capable of this level of BS but got laughed at by everyone I mentioned it to the day that update came out. Though admittedly I didn't think it was possible to stack it high enough to actually 1-shot AV.

According to the BG thread, you need an initial tick of 126 or more with 10 SCH all popping MV in synch with each other so the 1st tick will deal 128,000 points of damage. AV only has 100k so this will actually overkill the bastard.

My bet is in the coming update (possibly even sooner) SE will adjust exactly how many SCH can stack MV at once. I don't see why they have to destroy this mechanic completely, just put a reasonable cap on it like say 5 SCH. And yeah, I would LOVE to see AV get 1-shot by this at least once just out of spite.

As far as BG goes idk why I even bother posting when I do. I mostly just go there because now & then someone actually has a good, informative post though they are few and far between. Idk why Kaeko wastes his time on those asshats.


EDIT: OK I was wrong, Kaeko describes it in full on his LJ, and AV actually only has 66k HP (though it was 100) so that makes it possible with only 9 SCH then if you can land a high enough helix...

So that you can merit what in place of it? Regardless of how this turns out MV merits can take a JA that is more or less useless on its own, and make it a decent enough damage boost...compared to what, extra Sublimation or Grimoire Recast down? Both of those are junk, SCH Group 1 is more or less equivalent to COR Group 1, either you go all out buffing that job's unique form of magic damage, or you end up with a junky setup.

@Karinya: I'm not intimately familiar with SCH merits but I read something about full merits granting only -25% duration instead of -50%.

I also skimmed over some stuff that implied 3rd party tool usage for the timing, but I also skimmed over some other posts that implied it's humanly possible to time without cheating.

Correct, full merits double the damage/tick but only cut the remaining duration by 25%, without merits MV in itself does not increase damage at all, simply lessen the amount of time taken to deal the damage.

And while you could use any number of third party tools(the 'most' legitimate to me would be using the AutoExec plugin of Windower, but everyone would need to set some pretty specific things up with it), or you could use something like Vent/Skype and coordinate via actual conversation, or you could just somehow luck out into having 9-10 people with SCH at 75 that have a good sense of timing(sounds simple but realistically, this is not going to happen).

I'm surprised this hasn't come up sooner since this isn't really an 'exploit', it's using the abilities given to us by the developers within the parameters they set, the only thing that makes it an 'exploit' is that it's not the magic Simon combination they want us to hit to defeat AV.

Either way it's not like this strategy is limited to AV, you could employ this on pretty much anything that you can land a reasonably good Helix on and 1-shot the majority of endgame mobs, or at the very least to a significant amount of damage in a very short window with minimal enmity repercussions. This same deal could be used to knock down things such as KV, Kirin, Omega, all kinds of crap.

Well, investing time in meritting with FFXI is now lower on my priority list than ever, considering I'm just going to quit shortly after completion Shantotto's mini-expansion. Thanks to the odd jobs I've been working and the hours they seem to enjoy putting me at, its led to me losing my taste for playing FFXI.

So I really don't see investing time in what SE is probably going to consider an exploit a sensible use of my time. I'll finish off my last Snapshot merit, though.

I expect that when they nerf this one, it will be similar to what they did to the manaburn nerf, only more effective. If they say, limited the stackablity to something like 3 SCHs, that would probably be enough.

I forgot how amazingly exciting endgame activities in general are in FFXI until I watched that video. Lots of people standing around a relatively static mob and nothing happening for 90% of the time.

Wouldn't it be awesome if they actually went after cheaters instead of nerfing the job?

Yeah, I know it's probably not going to happen. But we can dream.


P.S. Yovras aren't an endgame mob (well, except for JoL, which this wasn't). But thanks for the gratuitous insult anyway, well-known chronic asshole! For the record, in the last few days I've been to a CoP Dynamis, Einherjar, a couple Nyzul boss runs and Proto-Ultima. None of them involved lots of people standing around and nothing happening.

This isn't cheating (well, using 3rd party tools to get the timing right is) as they're doing nothing wrong if you think about it; Multiple players hitting the same JA at once for an epic boom. This is more of a screw up on SE's part than people subverting the game for their own purposes.
