Now as the OP describes, the intent was to try this in an attempt to 1-shot AV but they never got the timing right. Even so, SWEET MOTHER OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, CLOSE TO 100K DAMAGE IN A FLASH!

Modus Veritas doubles the damage of Helix that's on the mob, at the expense of dropping its duration.

That shit be exponential, and you know what happens when you make shit exponential. An army of SCHs MV'd the Helix right before the next tic, and it did a ridiculous amount of damage in a single tick.

Hard to believe SE still hasn't gotten the memo that exponential trends are VERY VERY BAD WHEN YOU DON'T CAP THEM.

Each use of MV doubles the damage per tick, but halves the remaining duration. So 10 MV = x1024 damage. But potentially, if you time it wrong, you could reduce the duration so much it would wear off before the next tick. (Assuming that it counts the duration in seconds, rather than in ticks with a minimum of 1 tick remaining. But it seems like if this could happen, it would pretty much inevitably always happen - 1/1024 of 60 seconds is less than 1/20 of a second, nearly impossible for humans even without the addition of lag. The fact that anyone did it at all seems a pretty strong indicator that the timing isn't actually as demanding as the math would seem to indicate. Need more testing.)

IDK if they're going to nerf this or not - it may depend on how many LSs can both muster enough SCH65+, and nail the timing. (Since MV is unresistable, only the lead SCH who's actually casting the Helix needs to be loaded up with MACC, MAB, HQ staff, helix merits, etc. The rest can be naked 65s if they don't mind eating RR1 if they somehow get hate, naked 70s if they want RR2.)

Reportedly, in areas with no claim, anyone can MV regardless of if they're in the same alliance as the person who cast the helix. Scholarburn DL, anyone?

Well I've heard tell of some people already placing GM calls about this, so they are (apparently) aware of it.

Then again, who knows? If something has the potential to one shot the strongest mobs in the game, I think they'll do something about it, but SE has been known to do some stranger things in the past.

And they left DRK zerging alone when it came to everything but AV. So if this happens to play with their baby, they'll fix it somehow.

@Karinya: I'm not intimately familiar with SCH merits but I read something about full merits granting only -25% duration instead of -50%.

I also skimmed over some stuff that implied 3rd party tool usage for the timing, but I also skimmed over some other posts that implied it's humanly possible to time without cheating.

The third party tool in question is FFXIApp, which maury (the maker) shut down. It no longer works, though surely there are new bots in the making, and plenty of others already in existence, but that one was just the most popular.

There's a huge thread about that on BG, as well, with a bunch of people shouting "lolbotters" like botting is suddenly going to completely cease to exist.

This has been a fairly epic week on BG.

Probably doesn't help that every possible theory gets dismissed in seconds, whether it was actually tried or not.

And even with their best recent efforts at tard control, BG remains a breeding ground for assholes. Honestly, they started way too late in the forum's life to get things under control, that's the sort of thing you set out to do at the start and not five years later.
