    ~$16/troy oz is not expensive.

$50 at the most, and that would only be if it came with something cool (i.e. USEFUL) in-game.

Maybe they'll have them at a more reasonable rate at the next fanfest? (assuming there even is one)

I got dog tags for free in the Army. $100 is definitely too much.

So I don't give a shit about a sparkling dog tag. But shouldn't this get to our front page? Our "most recent" news topic is about 40 days old.

Assuming Mhurron's price is correct, and assuming these dog tags are reasonably big (2" x 1.33" x 1/16"), and assuming this is pure silver and Wiki is right about Silver's density, the silver in the tag would be worth $15. Plus whatever the chain adds.

No thank you Square. Start coupling these with abjurations and maybe I'll take you seriously.

My guess is that the chain adds about 2$ even though we don't know if the chain is silver anyways.

For the price it is, it would have to be either bronze or Gold for the size the dog tag is worth.

Either that, or add in a few other items. Like the Plushies of goblins and other such.

Even if we got all three that would only be 45$+ the chain to make them. Adding a 20% to them for profit is a good profit margin as they will sell tons more if they lowerd the price. They also have to add in S&H unless they pay for it themselves which could be the reason as to why its so expensive. But, I doubt it.

So from what Armando said its about 17$ with the chain. 20% of that is... $2.04 Profit per tag. With all the FFXI fans wanting one and buying one (random number) ~1,000~, thats $2,040 worth of profit if the buyer pays for S&H.

But, with the $106, they will have less people buying it, which could mean less profit, or more profit depending on how many people buy it.

If the chain were silver I'd expect it to add more than $2. And there are also obviously some manufacturing costs. But still, I bet they could sell this shit for $30 and still make a wide profit. They could push the price up to $50 and I'm sure they'd still get people to buy.

40$ would be the highest I would go for something like this, and only because it includes the custom etched information. Sadly just having your name and server isn't all that much info, but what else could you put on it?

$20 says silver plate and not pure silver to boot.

Seriously SE, for $106 we ought to be getting a bloody relic. That's almost 2/3rds of a year's worth of subscription fees for one player at $13 a month, no mules.

Yea, I was just going with the random number thing with the chain. I also wasn't adding in the cost to make the tag either. Its just base value of how much silver costs was what I was going for. But the chain could just be plain polished metal to look like silver as well. As for the $50 thing... Its SE, and people are idiots(Not everyone), they will buy anything they see.
