I have to say that I won't be sticking with FFXIV if it goes down the same path as FFXI. I'm a fan of SE (which I still call Squaresoft LOL) and I'm a huge fan of the FF series. But I just can not support them if they do a repeat of things in FFXI, I'm not a masochist.
That's the thing, it wont be a "repeat" of FFXI. For starters, just the fact that the game will use Direct X10 (well kind of anyway) is a big jump from what we have now. Then you have the fact its on PS3 and PC, so the "limitations excuse" we would not run into as much (unless they released it on 360 as well) . Now of course I can not judge very well myself, since all I have to go on is aot of text info and some videos of a half finished game.

You really need to get over graphics. There really is more to a game.
Your entire argument that 14 won't be run the same as 11 is that it is using the current (Well, one version behind) DirectX level? Guess what, so did 11.
Oh, and a lot of the PS2's limitations on the game are that everything has to fit in the systems RAM, which is 32MB. The PS3 has 256MB system memory. You can go ahead and put 12GB RAM in your Quad Core system, 14 won't use it. Good luck with no limitations. BTW, the 360 has more system RAM available to it then the PS3 does.
There's more to games than graphics, true. But new graphic or hardware capablities can lead to different experiences as well. Kaliea's point is valid, though I'm certain FFXIV will make a more conventional use of graphics as other devs do - to make things look pretty. But newer hardware will open up new opportunities to address things that held FFXI back.
And I feel the need to point this out. FFXI's biggest problem isn't a seemingly slow-to-respond dev team, its a community that's spoiled and expects far too much. Stop kidding yourselves in thinking SE is going to grant your every last so-called "reasonable" wish.
Every developer just has their quirks and they don't have to give you a reason for what they do or attempt to appease your every last wish. I mean, how many times has Capcom rated the difficulty "Easy" or "Normal" on something and you didn't get raped the second you started the game? I walk out of the Monster Hunter tutorial thinking I'm ready to take on some missions. No, I'm ready to get mauled by monsters, that's what I'm ready for. One star difficulty my ass, you need a legion to take down that Giadrome >.>;
Having said that, what main series Final Fantasy game have you played that was exactly the same experience the previous one was? It would be foolish to expect XIV to be the same experience as FFXI. I'm not exactly thrilled Nomura and Kistase are doing main series projects again, but FFXIII is not going to be recycled FFX. FFVIII was not FFVII all over again.
Final Fantasy's nature is reinvention. Any level of familiarity is just there to lure you into the new systems they've concocted.

Ok so there would still be "limitation" but not as bad as it was on the PS2
You read what I said all wrong...
My reference to Direct X, has nothing to do with graphics, but more with what Direct X itself can do. Direct X 9, can do so much more then 8 could.
hell I don't care about graphics at all, as long as they look decent, I could care less.
You talk like I don't know about computer hardware, when I work with the crap every day. I know FFXIV wont use that much ram, and putting that much in a gaming system is retarded anyway, hell at the moment you dont need more then 6 anyway even on an X64 OS. I may not be able to explain things that well, but I know my stuff -.-
and I still say that you cant base how FXIV will be run, by how FXI is run now.

Like... customer (no) support? That's the main thing I'm concerned about with XIV... that SE will treat us just as crappily as they already are.
DX11 will NOT improve customer support. DX11 will NOT help you if SE has banned you in error. DX11 will NOT speed up the recovery process when your character gets "broken" in the master database.

I'm talking more along the lines of fixing things that need to be fixed around the time the problem starts and not 3 or 4 YEARS down the line. I've been gaming a long time and I'm a pretty tolerant person but I do have my threshold. I refuse to support them no matter how much of a fan I am if the same shenanigans go on in XIV. XI's difficulty never bothered me one bit and I'll still defend it. It made me feel like I was really achieving something that I could be proud of because of the hard work I had to put into it. XI's graphics didn't bother me either, in fact, I tweaked my graphics and enjoyed finded truly beautiful vistas in the game to screenshot. So any "new and improved" graphics won't make me want to play XIV any more than XI. I'm used to the reincarnations of our favorite symbols in the FF series in all of the game and won't be disappointed if they keep this tradition up. I just don't want to see the reincarnation of the abysmal support of XI in XIV.....or in any MMO I play.
