Re: Rally 'round to send Square-Enix a message!

I wasn't insinuating they did them on purpose. Also, in comparison to some "clauses" they have, they might as well put some of these in the ToS if they want to be that stupid:

If you find a way to get the most xp/hour, do not take advantage.
If you find a way to beat a mission or quest that we hadn't considered, do not take advantage.
If you find a way to solo something that was meant for a pt, do not take advantage.

I mean, the list could go on. Just becase they put "we can fuck you if we want" in the ToS, doesn't mean its okay and they should act on it (bannings). Don't they know who their long-term player base is? They should just Ban everyone now and see who begs to come back. Eventually WoW will win. That'd be funny.

Your forgetting that in the US most debit cards are backed by visa/mastercard and can be run as credit. most customers of major banks who use debit cards won't have a problem.

Re: Rally 'round to send Square-Enix a message!

My trial account was banned around the end of July even though I played in April and haven't touched my account since, except to check my PlayOnline mail. Here are the facts associated with my situation ( I'm not QQing or anything, I just want to know what activities justify a banning):

        - My younger sister and I created our accounts on her computer since it was the only one we have access to regularly that meets the system requirements of the game. (Both our accounts are trial accounts and both were banned.)

        - I only have one character on my account. I leveled up my first job (MNK) to 18 and my second job (WHM) to 11. My younger sister leveled her only character to 16 so she never got to get a second job.

        - The most Gil I ever made on my character was ~2,000 (I'm a terrible spender). My younger sister made ~10,000 on hers at the most.

        - I really wanted to play the game on my own computer, but it doesn't meet the system requirements for the game. Then I found out about a graphics card emulator and used that so I would be able to party with my sister and cousin in-game. At times, my sister and I would just alternate on her computer instead since I didn't want to risk permanent damage to my computer with the emulator.

        - Since I couldn't make a lot of Gil, I never was able to start up gardening in my house. My sister was too busy leveling to think about gardening.

        - My sister and I absolutely abhor RMT so we wouldn't buy Gil to save our lives.

        - We always bought from the NPCs since my sister and I didn't know how to buy from other players' shops or utilize the auction house.

I don't know why my account and my sister's account were banned or what we were banned for so if someone could point out just what exactly my sister and/or I did wrong, I would appreciate it as we're wondering whether or not we should put in the effort to get our accounts back or even play FFXI with our cousin ever again. We're afraid to try out FFXIV because of the possibility of SE banning our accounts if we only play for a little while or something.

Yes, both my sister and my trial accounts expired. Even then, I don't see any reason why we can't occassionally check our PlayOnline messages.

When have they ever banned someone over any of these? At best they patch whatever they deem broken.

Re: Rally 'round to send Square-Enix a message!

Okay, so I spoke with a SE customer service rep over webchat and this is what I found out:

Now, originally, when I read the FAQ for the 14-day free trial, it said that if I don't upgrade my account to a full one after 90 days, the CONTENT ID will be disabled and any character I created and leveled up during the 14-days gets removed from the servers/deleted. Upon reading the FAQ again in recent days, I discovered that they changed it so that both the content ID AND the POL account is inaccessible after 90 days. And by inaccessible, it meant banned, which was not mentioned anywhere. Once that happens, nothing I can do or say can get the account unbanned. I pretty much lose all my work on that account simply because I didn't make up my mind before SE's designated grace period ended.

And it used to be that content IDs for trial accounts can be reactivated through the Return to Vana'diel campaign, but it has since been changed so that no trial accounts can be reactivated through the campaign. I understand I don't have any proof of this, but that's mainly due to the fact that I was completely new to SE's policies and hence wasn't aware that they do these kinds of things. Yes, the Internet is constantly changing so I should keep a record of everything, but like I said, I didn't know SE did things like this.

So that's it. SE let's you try out the game for 14 days and if you can't make up your mind to get a full account after 90 days, the account gets banned. End of story.

That said, I don't feel motivated to come back to FFXI anymore. It was a great experience, but I think it's time for me to move on. Thanks for all the help and I'll see you all in FFXIV.

                Good-bye.

Deleted and banned are not the same thing, maybe try your melodrama somewhere else. If you have not come back to an account you used for no more then 14 days in a 90 day term period the odds significant;y favor you're not coming back at all.

I also love the people that are pissed off over SE's policies who are lining up to play 14.

its very simple, you played the 14-day trial, then did not come back in 90+ days, to SE thats "thanks for letting me try FFXI, but I dont want to play it." Not SE's fault you took to long.

Why? Just because SE's policies suck doesn't mean their games suck. Game developers are not the same as customer service representatives. I'm laying out my case so that other people know what to expect for real when they think about doing the 14-day trial. It may be nothing but "melodrama" to you, but to people who haven't played FFXI yet, this would be good-to-know information.

I understand that, but it's common for players to think that a game is bad and then a year later decide to give it another chance. When it comes to a MMO with a dedicated billing cycle like FFXI and WoW, people would like to have a lot of time to think about it before handing over their money. SE wanted my money and I didn't give it to them when they wanted it so, whatever. At least I'll know what to expect when FFXIV comes around.

and this is where you will fail, if you are going to base FFXIV support, off of FFXI's

Well it is the same company. They really haven't done a whole lot to show their FFXI playerbase that they know how to support them. They're slow and unresponsive, just like the macro system in game.

                              (ZING!)

I'm probably going to play XIV initially because of my friends. If I don't like it, well, it won't be the first game I've bought that I didn't like, and I can stop paying for it and just realize that I spent the money and that's that.

For now, though, Aion is out next week, and that should hold me for a while.

I have to say that I won't be sticking with FFXIV if it goes down the same path as FFXI. I'm a fan of SE (which I still call Squaresoft LOL) and I'm a huge fan of the FF series. But I just can not support them if they do a repeat of things in FFXI, I'm not a masochist.
