      Re: Programming

Well it has been in the past, but we're not really the experts on it, if things exist. There is plenty of modding to be done, but it's not within the ToS.

If you google Windower though, you can check them out and see what they've got, and possibly ask on their forums. I won't link their forums because we're not really supposed to endorse it, but we talk about it often enough at this point that I can at least tell you what it's called to give you a bit of a clue.

Sorry there's no way to really be more helpful with this one.

        Re: Programming

The question you ask perplexes me...

If you were a programmer or other person skilled in IT trades, you would know that you can open, view, and alter any file on your PC and that FFXI is necessarily composed of files, therefore you can alter it...

The fact that you ask that question indicates that you do not possess the skill necessary to complete whatever nefarious task you intend to undertake, so any discussion of said mechanics would necessarily be a pointless exercise. I would recommend just using windower like everyone else and get the appropriate plug-ins.

If you try to do anything retarded (like using a Warphack or any other significant form of cheating), you'll just get banned.

KEEP TO THE GERENAL DISCUSSION TOPIC. I already got 2 strikes for language and mocking the moderaters
I wouldn't call attention to that... I also doubt that it's just for "language" or using particular words. It's probably how you used said language as one can probably find several occurrences of most curse words on this forum for which the writer did not receive any punishment. I don't think, as you suggest, that it's the fault of others for getting off topic that's causing your problem, but rather the fact that you're personality is most likely incredibly abrasive... You might consider working on that.

                Re: Programming

Cant use Windower on a PS2. You will need a PC in order to use a windower as you can't download anything onto the PS2 unless sony has made it, or you mod it so that it can. But since the PS2 can not surf the web as it has no webbrowser, you can not even access it. You will have to download it to your PC, and hook up your pc to your PS2 some how and mod the program so that it will fit onto your PS2. But I doubt youc an even get it to work on the PS2.

Oh, on PS2. Yeah, you won't be able to do any modding, and the PS2 is weaksauce anyway, so I doubt you'll be able to do anything with it.

I hate to add this on, but Windower (along with any other ToS violating programs for Windows) will flat out not work on the PS2, if you want the reasons just ask, its a fairy long list and you should figure out most of them when you start studying system architectures at college (Andew Tanenbaum's books are a good starting point).

                      Re: Programming

I'm surprised no one has suggested that the OP find a different career path.

If you think you can reprogram a PS2 game without a developer's kit or something jury-rigged to be similar, you have no business being anywhere near any source code. (NOTE: I'm not talking about relatively simple things like data swapping custom data, such as you might see with a custom Guitar Hero PS2 disc - and besides, FFXI on the PS2 doesn't run off the DVDs anyhow).

Psh, what are you talking about, Icemage?

I reprogram PS2 games all the time. I'm a master. In fact I'm so leet I converted an old PS2 game into a device that allows me to put any beverage on a table without risking to scratch it or damage it with condensed water. All using my pro hacking skillz.

So I'm pretty sure the OP can create really awesome things if he puts his mind into it.

                          Ok it wasn't a PS2 game but an old CD that was lying around. And yes, I stepped on it. <_<;

Since he seems to have problems following instructions on installing Ubuntu on his PS3 or simply is not willing to accept the risk of messing up his PS3 saved games I figured he'd just give up on this endeavor as well and go back to flipping burgers or whatever he does.

                              Hey!

Don't insult burger flipping. That requires an attention span.

Icemage, the reason we're not trying to stop this guy is pure hilarity. It's like telling a BMX rider that he cut his brake lines while he was trying to fix his bike. Sure, you could let them know, but they deserve it anyway.
