  • Augmenting... Is it worth it?

Is it really worth it to try and Augment something that might turn out completly useless?

Like Dusk Gloves +1. Str and Dex-2?

Haubys getting -Eva, and + some resists?

I think Augments should be changed so that players can choose from a list (Like 5-10 randomly generated Augments), that they want to add to their armor, not have it completly randomized like it is now.

Most of the gear that I see Agumented really sucks. What do you all think?

Re: Augmenting... Is it worth it?

I think augmentation is one of those things that people should really only do at their discretion, and really isn't something that one is forced in to doing at all.

Also note that the Earring in my sig was received from the Tenshodo chest with the ACP key, which requires nothing but beating a mission fight, no item gambling involved whatsoever. And as noted in my signature, you'll be hard-pressed to find something that beats it for Red Mage, especially as far as Augmented Earrings go.

Personally, I loathed the whole random augments thing, as it sort of kills the whole "customization" aspect that was so heavily-played when the system was first introduced, and we currently only see with the add-on completion equipment. At one point, though, I went and got myself a crimson key, which begot me a Silver belt with augments that basically made it a side-grade from my Brave belt. Which means, hey, I can eventually get to sell off my Brave belt, once I get BLU and RDM to 32+. So, not all augments are all bad.

I like this idea. I don't like the system as it is now. Even with a list of say, 5 augments to choose from, there's no guarantee you'll get options that you want.

I like the augments, but I dislike how it's largely random.

        Take the new Fae Weapons for example; why can't it just be that once you've won the battle, you are either;

        1) Shown the weapon with various augments, and if you don't like it have it randomized again on the spot rather than having to repeat the stupid battle and risk losing the damn thing

        2) Asked which kind of augments you'd like, and then the values are randomly generated.

I like the second option that you have there. But even then, it will still end up being crappy. Want store Tp on an item? Select a Store Tp Augment, then only get +1 Stp. But its still better than nothing lol.

But, if they have that, you should be able to Re-Augment the item so that you can "double up" the effect, and make it stronger to a cap. (+15). But if you want to increase more than 1 for an agument, the cap gets lowered (+12). And if you want to have even more augments on the item, then you start lossing stats like a point of Str for every 3 points of Stp. Or a Point of Mnd for every 3 points of Int. I think thats a fair trade off.

your missing the point still it seems..... if all augmenting items did was give you +s in stuff, then it would begin to be a requirement for people to do it, the way it is right now, its a the players discretion.

And it's any worse than doing Sky, Sea, Assault, Salvage etc for gear how?

Exactly. Just another thing to add to the list of things I'd have to do to be acceptably geared. (By standards of the elite linkshells, not most. I'm in one of the picky linkshells, and I like it that way, but yeah, it'd turn into a requirement.)

Re: Augmenting... Is it worth it?

Well overall augmenting is seen as such a shitstorm aksannyi I don't think it will ever be a requirement unless the think tanks of the server find some rhyme or reason behind it. Because crafting is not a requirement for alot of endgame lses or specific mog house sets even though it is useful and can give pluses other players do not have. I see results and statements that people are seeing results that match the mob they fought but since the mob is random with en-"x" stats of base + x it is a risk. Because by that if it is an easy fight you get nothing good, if it is a hard fight you might not get what you want, and if you do get something you want repeating is not possible. For instance you fight jackpot and his has improved critical rate but you trade it a earth staff. You get improved crit rate but you don't melee on whm but it doesn't mean it is any less of a good buff it is just not good for you. Same for -2mnd -2int +4 agi. But they also have the lack luster -2 str.

The augmenting system agrees with the rich and the crafter. So if this person can bang out an apollo staff with little trouble or this person can buy 20 of them then they have little to loose since gil itself is a renewable resource. Sure if they fail they loose time and maybe the piece but if they succeed they feel special and a little bit more powerful. Their peers will look at them and Q_Q until they go out attempt and get something or fail there way into farming. Call me optimistic or foolish but I rather like it this way. A reward for the bold or a punishment for the stupid however you want to look at it this a choice that people can not suggest you take. People are not going to say you need to go augment that get so and so stat to really make your <insert damaging manuver> eat face like they willl do about the MKT or ACP pieces or COP and TOAU rings.

This is the first step on differences being accepted. Will it give blm reason to invest in quake 2 no. Is it really gay overall because the odds are against you yes. Will my answer change to that if I get 10 back to back good augments or a haubergeon with triple attack+1 stp+3 haste +3 yes. But reguardless it is a good implement only if it was implemented so much sooner before there was gear that trumps it in spades.

Re: Augmenting... Is it worth it?

I like the idea but it's implimentation in the game is frustrating and seemingly fruitless. I think SE really shoulda done what was mentioned... give the player choices. Even if all the options suck, the semblence of choice makes getting stiffed a lil less sharp. The randomness of this "customization" doesn't fit into the definition I'm accustomed to for the word "customization".

                    Life Belt ~ +1 Str, -1 Dex/Agi, +11 Water
                    1st Battle Gloves ~ +1 Wind
                    2nd Battle Gloves ~ +1 MP

"You throw away a pair of Battle Gloves" x2

Pretty crap-tastic so far imHo but I have only attempted to augment using the NM in Behemoth's Domain. Based on what my luck has already achieved, I'm not very enticed to buy the Ogre Jambiya or Rindomaru for augmentation either. I know it's a different animal altogether but left with such a bad taste for it, it's not high on the priority list at all.

Nowhere, just general observations. Lv.1 items don't seem to get anything beyond like +2 elemental resistance and maybe +1 HP/MP for example, while Lv.50 items gave as much as +12 besides having a chance of getting +2-3 in stats. Then the update came along and someone got a Genie Weskit with +6 INT, I think. There's clearly a correlation to the level of the item, even if we don't know exactly what the possibilities are.

Cool. Thank you. Just wondering. I may attempt my last pair of Battle Gloves (9k meh) and then maybe move on... was thinking of trying my Bat Cape or another Life Belt.. maybe a Swod Belt +1 ... but I'm scared now.

I'm not even gonna bother. It won't give you any stat increase big enough to shift your performance, because base stats suck.

Me, I'm just gonna use them to try to get +Resistance in slots that you would have to pay out the ass to get it (e.g. getting a +Fire resist bow and mantle instead of going broke buying a Cerberus Bow or Mantle.) If there's something they seem to be generous with, it's elemental resistance.
