Im not really to much of a noob i just started playing again after not playing for 3 years but im back and i have been noticing the noob comments. not to be a punk but some comments are just uncalled for. just remeber that you at one time was a noob and should help guide some of the noobs in the right direction.

Noobs shouldn't be stood for, much. Doesn't mean you should go out of your way to harrass them, but nor will we/I sit here and take their idiocy.

Newbs on the other hand should be educated and taught.

There is a difference between the two if you were not aware of it.

im very aware of the two i have seen my share of the dumb newbs that should find a new hobby i on the other hand have been hit with a couple of the bad newb comments and am a very likable person and any help on how to approve is welcome. however I dont need nor should anyone else that is the same way be treated like a child.

I haven't seen any comment against noobs, except for when some one messes up, and the pary wipes, and they blame it on the healer if they are new, or even the DD, even if it wasn't their fault. But, that is rare, I have only seen that like what... 5 times for over three years?

I mostly keep to my LS, and ignore the white text unless I see my character's name in it, or I am running through a begginer zone bored. I usually just stop, and buff them, then continue on my way if they have a LS, if no ls I ask them if they want one.

Are you sure you're aware of the difference? You seem to be using them interchangably.

Newb is just short for Newbie. I don't think anybody ever truly means to insult them. We know this game can be daunting to newcomers.

n00b is used to refer to somebody who just plays with ineptitude in some way or another. Think level 75s who use Tigers Stole or Justice Badge. There is sufficient enough a middle ground to tell when somebody lacks the resources to do certain things, and tell when somebody is just bad.

Ketaru is putting it mildly, noob is used for someone who not only plays with a very high and often dangerous degree of ineptitude but also insists that they are right.

Feba needs to post that one comic of noob vs newb.

From what I understand the OP wants to create a shooting range where you can put noobs to fire at.

Kinda like the practice Cardians in Windy.

Apparently you're not aware of the difference because you use the wrong terms to describe each group. You also seem to have had these sorts of comments directed specifically at you, yet I doubt they originated from this forum.

If you are new to the game and someone calls you a newb, then they are right, that is what you are. It's not an insult, it's a fact.

But if people have called you a noob, and did so in a specifically derogatory manner, then you should be taking this issue up with them. Coming in here calling us of all people out for throwing around insults at new players is just completely off base. DiV has one of the friendliest, welcoming community of FFXI players I personally have ever seen.

If people here call someone a noob, it's because they are in fact a noob. And if that's the case, they can either get mad and snap back at people, further cementing their noob status. Or calm down and realize people here will willingly and happily help any player, new or old, as long as they have a good attitude. And people who choose the latter option can never really be called a noob.

So at this point, my only question is, where did you see all these instances of people here insulting new players?

i didn't come here to claim all of you guys have done this it was just an observation that i saw but i know the misuse of each term by those who don't me not using the correct one in my statements is do to lack of sleep i'm running on like 2 hrs in the last 32hrs maybe it is the cause for this stupid thread but im sorry if i offended anyone it was not directed at anyone .

And this is why there is a blist. Just type /blist add NameHere and hit enter. If you don't like what they have to say, you don't have to listen to them.

I started my character barely a week ago - so I'm a newbie. I've played MMO's and the FF theme is something that gives me a warm fuzzy; makes me wish I played when this game first came out. Anywhoo - playing on the Seraph server, I've not run across any rude players.

Coming from pk the newbie games, I kinda of (hell...I did) ran from anyone on the outside, especially when I got the prompt <ThatotherPCwithabigsword> is examining you.' Yeah...I ran all the way back to the blessed gates of San d'Oria.

Having said that, this game has a steep learning curve but it's not so bad that your best friend GOGGLE cannot find a link for any questions/guides/tweaks/etc you might have. I didn't know how to set up the game for my laptop..I Google'd the answer. I didn't know how to stack items...you betcha sweet Chocob's right leg I Google'd that. I'm still trying to figure out linkshells, crafting, subjobs and the finesse of being of redmage (I Google). I think some players have an expectation of a cake walk and entitlement. Ain't squat guaranteed to you in this game except for access provided you pay your fees.

All in all, this is a game. Relax and have fun. The moogles will thank you.
